I've been baiting a lad for about 2 months now. His is a basic funds release scam with a charitable angle thrown in. First he asked for $80,000, when I balked at that figure it went down to $5800, and when even that seemed to steep for my character he asked for $2000. I convinced him that I had some precious family heirlooms I could sell to raise the needed funds but that it would take time to get them appraised and to find a buyer. Well, I was finally able to get the items appraised and they turned out to be worth about $20,000. But when I found a buyer he only offered me $6000. So, I told my lad that I was hesitant to part with the objects for so little money. It turns out though that he once again needs $5800 dollars and that $6000 will more than cover it. He even said I can keep the extra $200 dollars as comission (isn't that nice). He is encouraging me to sell the items for far less than they are worth so that we can move forward with our transaction.

My question is, would you sell the items for $6000 and start messing with him in other ways or would you tell him that you want to meet with a few more buyers before you part with your antiques? Part of me thinks I can get at least another month or so out of searching for the best deal while another part of me wants to start screwing up WU transfers and other devious acts.

Also, it should be noted that he believes I am a pastor at a church with missionaries spread throughout Africa. He has expressed a desire to meet one of our missionaries. I am hoping to use that angle to get a safari out of him but I know that I am months away from taking the bait that far.

Your brother, who happens to be a missionary in Africa, not far from your friend heard about you planning to sell item and decided that he is willing to buy it from you for $10.000 to keep it in the family........................................

So, I agree to sell the items and then hit a legal snag when my attorney tells me that there is a provision in my mother's will that states that I cannot part with any of the objects without my bother's permission. My brother, the missionary, will offer to buy the items for $10,000 and I will then ask my lad permission to let my brother in on why I am selling the items to begin with. Being a man of God, my brother will also want to help release the funds so that they can be put to use helping impoverished war orphans.

I think I need a brother.

Other options - you take the stuff to auction, you forgot about the auction fees and VAT payable, so you only now have $5000 - you'll keep it safely for him whilst you try to raise the extra $800 so you can send it all over in one go (to save on transfer fees). Now he'll be in a pickle, he says he must have $5800, you've got $5000 and he's *so close* to getting 'his' money he can either say $5000 will do (start a discussion of why, if it was essential to have $5,800 before it now isn't), or wait for his extra $800. He'll go nuts, so stand your ground saying it'll only be another week or two to get the $800 and ask him why he doesn't trust you? And delay and repeat until he cries like a girl.

Poor bugger will feel those $ bills, smell those $ bills, but can't quite *reach* those $ bills

Anybody dealt with 1ke L3kwandu before? That is the name my lad is using for the WU transfer. It is not the name he has been using in the scam. I just wrote him and told him that I am not comfortable sending money to a person I have not dealt with. I demanded details on this new business associate. This should buy me another week or so. Wink

New business means new trust. Once your lad is ready to collect any of your details or funds you must be careful. May I recommend http://s3cur3pt.1nf0

The details are here. <click me for modalities>

There's always (after everything other timewasting option has been exhausted) that the cat jumped off the sideboard and knocked the precious heirlooms off, smashing them to smithereens.

how about you agree to sell them, then a few days later you get robbed and ALL the heirlooms were stolen.

Then a few days later, you discover the brother has insured the lot for DOUBLE what they were worth and hopefully you can drag out the insurance problems for months
