Ok, I know some people like to homebrew but I'm thinking of a specific beer (or wine) thread. I happen to live within a mile of a gourmet beer and wine store, there seems to be alot of those here in Florida. Anyhow, I'd like to hear your best beers or wines, especially since I like trying new and different ways of satisfying my genetic Irish urges.

Right now, I have an Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout in front of me. Yum.

I enjoy a lighter beer, more like an ale rather than a stout or lager, so I enjoy : Harp, Fosters, Carlberg, and sometimes Corona

I do not drink domestic, only import..... Very Happy

As I have mentioned here before, emperor of beers, Pauwels Kwak from Belgium and not because of the coachman's glass Wink

right now I would pay $10.00 for a nice cold glass like that, I haven't had it in years, limited production and I guess the Belgium beer drinkers can handle that easily so no export needed.

iv worked behind the bar of a pub in cairns and we had alot of tourists come in to sample ow aussie beers the one that they seemed to like the best "because of ow very hot climate in cairns" was a XXXX dark ale but after selling 2 18s of the stuff xxxx breweries decided not to sell any more dumb bastard's it was a really nice drop .

The other thing that i find is realy thirst quenching is to add a dash of sars. A lot of the older drinkers used to drink it over here and my older brother when i was a wiper snaper put me on to it . Try it on a really hot day or after mowing the lawn (if you cant get sars soft drink use sars cordial it works just as good .
@ bill you call that a glass iv still got the yard glass from my 21st I only every drank out of it once and that was at my 21st its a lot of beer to try and skull puke

Right noo I am drinking some cheap lager (local brand), which among other ingredients has corn flour (oh, the horror!). Quite palatable actually. Beer with corn flour added is common in my country (probably due to the low quantities of cultivated barley). Otherwise, I like some Tuborg and I am very fond of belgian lambic beers, especially fruit ones. Very Happy

They remind me of cider. I like cider a lot, but in my country is as rare as belgian lambics.
Eh, this is it... we don't have world famous beers, but the wines are better than the best western european wines I have tasted.

Harp, Fosters, Carlsberg and Corona are all lagers. Laughing

I drink pretty much any beer, I love it all. At home I like anything from the Fullers brewery in Chiswick, including London Pride, Discovery ale, and Chiswick bitter.
Otherwise, I sometimes like something dark, sometimes something light, depends on the weather a lot of the time. When it's hot, Corona, Sol, San Miguel, Miller MGD / High life, Molson Canadian, Keo (from Cyprus) are all really refreshing. I also like pretty much anything from Czech Rep and Germany, favourites being Budvar, Bitburger, Warsteiner and Diebels Alt.

@Bill2, no consolation I know, but Belgium doesn't manage to use up all of it's production of Pauwels Kwak. Some of it finds it's way to London and it can be found in the odd lowlands specialist pub, alongside a lot of fruit beers and trappist brews. Sorry. Sad

Well, I found out this morning that if you drink more than 2 Old Rasputin Stouts, you too will feel like you've been shot, stabbed, beaten and thrown in the river. Laughing

Isn't Old Rasputin about 14-15%.

I'm sure I tried a couple of bottles of this on holiday and ended up on the pavement.

The last nice beer ( as opposed to lager) that I had was Duchy Original Organic Ale. Brewed by Prince Charlie, no less ( or probably one of his serfs at his Highgrove farm).
You can pick it up in the UK at Morrisons and while you're pickling your liver, you can feel good about all the profits going to a charity.

Rasputin is 9%, it still packs a punch, especially compared to the 4 and 5 percent beers that most people drink in the US.

It sucks that there are so few decent domestic US beers, not counting the flowery microbrew designer crap for latte sippers.

I like the Shiners I've had, I usually keep Yuengling in the fridge at home.

I miss some of the small regional breweries that went under, or absorbed into crappy conglomerates....

Mmmm, Guinness. I also love Mackeson's XXX Stout but unfortunately, it is no longer imported here from what my dealer told me.

Ah, finally a soft drinks subject! Why not? Amstel 1870 or Amstel Gold for me, Carlsberg, Bittburger, maybe Hertogh Jan tripple, or Grolsch Herfstbok, Duvel, Grolsch 'Het Kanon'. I heard nobody mention Heineken, I thought it was supposed to be very popular on the other side of the pond? I often wondered why, Bud must really be awful then ...

Heineken is relatively popular here, more of an "urban" drink and popular on the club scene. It's much better than Budweiser which is pure shit. However, Budweiser is the most popular beer here in the US, especially in the south. That doesn't say much for American beer drinkers.

And effectively, those glasses are not too hard to find here in Belgium Wink

I owe personnaly 2, and I bought them with the Kwak's at my local supermarket Very Happy

Otherwise, my favourites off course are Belgian:
Duvel, Orval, Chimay, Kwak, Duchesse de Bourgogne, Ciney, Grimbergen, Rochefort, Chouffe, and sooooooo many more...
But I'm not against a Corona or a Guiness from time to time.

Has anyone heard about "Le Vaudrée" here in Belgium?
These are pubs that have a card of about 800 special beers from Belgium and all over the world.
Such a nice place to stay Laughing
