I know many of our UK and European members may see this differently but this is something I really want and the price is really good. My girlfriend is having an absolute fit at the thought. However, I'm the "liberal" and she is actually a member of the US Navy. Interesting predicament.
That model is the .45 10+1 which would be nice, just in case Charles Soludo's 3rd cousin in Atlanta gets a federal subpoena on my IP. |

Just bought mrs_cuervo a Kimber Custom II, full size .45 w/night sights. She loves it.

She already carries a Para Ordinance compact .45 but it do have a bit of a recoil with the 2" barrel. (6+1)

I've always been partial to the 1911's, they fit my hand better that the double stacked models, besides if you get 7 rounds downrange, on target, you should have enough time to reload. |

I'm not so much worried about a lad's accomplice finding me but I am worried from time to time about some other scammers whose business I seriously hurt to come looking for me.
We had, and still have, a major problem in my company with organized crime taking our company for millions every year through various methods. I have done alot of work to combat them and their contacts on the inside over the last couple of years with some pretty good results. One very small example that I can tell you about involved a sneaky scheme that didn't work out so well for them but was costing our company over $1 million a month. So, I wouldn't be overly surprised if one day, they finally get sick of me and send someone to pay me a visit. It wouldn't be very hard for them to get that info. |

The PT-145 is my daily carry (I'm properly licensed and all that, of course). For the price, the gun is excellent. It's not picky about ammo in my experience. The only thing is that the SA/DA trigger action is LOOOOONG. You'll have to spend some time on the range with this model to get used to it if you've been shooting something like, oh, a government 1911.
If you're thinking of carrying, I'd go with a CrossBreed Holster The SuperTuck Deluxe in particular is well worth the money if you ask me. |

[just pondering]
If I would feel the need to carry a weapon to protect myself or my family I would wonder first if there would be a safer environment where I could move to so I wouldn't have to carry a weapon. After all I can't arm my kids or grand kids as that might lead to little mishaps and huge accidents. So my effort and assets would be used in that direction first.
If I was in direct danger because of my job I would consider changing my profession to avoid that problem long before I would start carrying a gun and if change was impossible I would make sure that I didn't bring the threat home.
The idea that your normal life is so dangerous that you have to arm yourself with a deadly weapon for protection will cause the aggressor to boost his armory too and the only one making a profit will be the factory supplying the stuff to both sides who actively supplies the "needs" and reasons to make you buy their product.
For some reason not all people are carrying weapons and the majority still manages to survive, reproduce, raise a family and live happily without ever getting shot or killed. So the problem must lay within the gun owner and not in the society.
The reason they choose for aggression as protection and don't go for protection alone like bullet proof clothing might also be an indication that they made a personal choice related to their character and not a rational choice. As the majority of people isn't armed, they must be protecting them self from people with likewise idea's while at the same time raising the risk for those people that don't believe in the weapon solution.
In a case that an aggressor would show up and was willing to apply deadly force the outcome isn't secured by the choice of weapon of both parties, because if that was the case there would only be one weapon brand/type on the market, the winner.
And the last one, showing off your weapon of choice to a forum that is mainly occupied in finding non lethal, legal solutions to limit a certain kind of criminal from doing their thing is a bit strange to me.
Yes I do own several guns and know how to fire them with great accuracy, but it hasn't come up in my mind yet that I would like the responsibly over an other humans death, the only things I aim at and kill are varmints, rodents or animals sick or injured beyond recovery [/just pondering] |

I have no axe to grind ,coming from the UK where we are deemed too irresponsible to own guns, but this is the general chat forum |

Looks like one of the best descriptions of a lad I've read in many a day. Kill away, bill2, kill away.
And, back on topic, nice piece, SSA. Unfortunately my pistol was compulsorily purchased after a change in the law a few years ago - only a Unique DES69 .22LR target. I always hankered after a 9mm 92F - the double stack suits my larger-than-average hands whereas a 1911 is too thin |

I have no axe to grind either, but waking up with the first coffee, reading " Think I found my new crush" and hoping for a nice new production of our plastic surgery department (no grinding axe their either, but they all start to look alike it seems) and finding this
I like guns because of the way they're made/designed a simple well thought through tool that will work under all conditions with minimum effort and high accuracy, I like/appreciate the craftsmanship, but not the goal they're build for. So I started pondering
Edit: my wife just straightened it out, they're not the same(the lady's) but gorgeous, it's my old mind that's going and I better looks at guns only |

Hi SSA. Make sure you read bill2's first post about 6 times. If you have to get out of Dodge, do it. Move instead of buying a firearm to protect yourself from these special friends. Why do you have a crush on this Taurus? Does it bring back memories of those steamy nights in Rio? I also do not understand the rational of a 10+1 .45 in a compact frame. Are you going to carry it concealed? The thing is a little too big for that unless you have some rolls of fat on your body. I do concede that its good looking but how does it fit in your hand. I know its too big for mine. Go to the range at least twice and put 400 rounds though a rental version. Other reasons I would personally reject it. YMMV.

NEVER buy a firearm because it's cheap. If you want a precise and accurate .45, get a Gold Cup but the best firearm for perimeter defense is the 12 gauge. |

I've heard pretty good things about it as far as carrying concealed, which I have a permit for. I think of a firearm the same way as I do insurance. You buy it and pray you never have to use it. |

@Royal: I haven't shot a .45 in recent memory and I'm torn between it and the .40 which I have shot recently. The problem with this one is it's constantly sold out. I had the opportunity the other day to pick one up for $375 but it was gone in minutes.
I used to carry a Keltec .380 which I liked alot but it was tricky to fire with my large hands. |

^^^ I have both a Glock Model 21 (.45 ACP) and a Model 22 (.40 S&W).
I firmly believe that the .45 has less felt recoil than the .40 does. The .45 is more of a "slow push back", whereas the .40 is more of a "harsh snap".
I find it much easier to get back on target with the .45, but the Model 21 is not for people with small hands. |

I hope you and your gun are very happy, though personally I think all weapons are evil.
However we've done gun control to death in the past, so we won't go there.
I went clay pigeon shooting the other week for the first time, with a borrowed pump action shotgun, straight out of 'Get Carter'. Loud bangs and a kick like a mule are not reccomended for monster hangovers. |

1) When I carried concealed I found a full size .45 was easier to conceal than a compact. I used an inside the pants holster and the butt could be concealed with a loose t-shirt so it was even possible to carry while wearing shorts. The compacts are too thick to conceal this way so I had to carry with a very high hip holster and some sort of coat or loose shirt and still had problems with the barrel showing when I raised my arms.
2) If you think about it any place that open carry is legal it is a much preferred option (I know some places allow concealed carry and prohibit open carry which seems extremely odd to me). Pulling or even exposing your gun from concealment to diffuse a situation is generally considered assault. In most places the only legal course of action is to pull and fire when your life is in danger. Most jurisdictions will not allow you to use deadly force to protect property outside the home. Which is to say if you are getting mugged your options are to pull and fire if you are in fear for your life or give up the money without exposing your weapon if you are not. Pulling the gun to scare off the assailant without firing could result in assault with a deadly weapon charge. Open carry can go a long way to diffuse dangerous situations before they occur. Not many crooks are gonna target the guy with the Colt 1911 on his hip.
Looking at it another way, many police officers go from rookie school to retirement without ever drawing their side arm. One of the reasons for this is no one ever thinks the cop is unarmed. |

I much prefer knives for self defense although a firearm is much cooler and deadlier. A knife is more fatal in a close range situation, requires no ammo, is silent, and is less likely to net you assault charges, especially if the other guy is armed. I carry a tactical folder with me which is perfectly legal so long as its not a gravity/inertia, switch, butterfly, dirks or dagger. Haven't used it for anything other than occasional work. |
