To understand this story, you need to now that my brother has had mercenary turn of mind of late. He's been selling his stuff to support his elecrtronic gaming habit.

So, anyway, the family is sitting at the table, talking about decorating, and the conversation turns to my brother's new rug he never got.

You see, this rug, according to my parents is rather ugly. My dad said it looked like something from "a French house of ill repute", and that "you have to see it to believe it". Apparently it was bright green, and shaggy. My parents refused to buy anything of the sort, but now they were considering letting him have it. It is, after all, his room.

Then my brother mentioned that, with the rug, he would be able to sleep comfortably on the floor.

Why did he want to sleep on the floor, we all wanted to know?

(I swear I'm not making this up)

Chainy's little brother wrote:

I understand about the addiction tho.

I know someone who would make a deal of any kind to get his new fix on video games and PC games satisfied.

Hope he wont get to cold on the floor,hehehe.....

^^^ I don't think it's gambling, RC. I think it's just computer games, PlayStation, etc.

SlapHappy has a good point. An addiction is an addiction, whether it's to drugs, alcohol, nicotine, shopping, or electronic games. Sad

Depending on how young he is, he needs to be taught some discipline fast. If this habit keeps on it'll lead to a path to self destruction. I myself play lots of games, but I have the sense to commit myself to physical activities outside of eating and sleeping.

How old is your brother anyway?

Yeah, he definitely shouldn't be at the point of selling his stuff at the age of 15. It's not even legal for him to use eBay at the age of 15. Hopefully he's in shape or he'll be like I was when I first went to basic training, when I couldn't even run 2 miles in less than 20 minutes. mom and Dad have to exert more control over him.

^^^ Ideas for exercise;

Strap his favourite game disc to a radio control car and have him chase around the yard after it.

Take his game controller and give it to a friend/co-worker/relative who works near by with strict instructions to return it only when he shows up to collect it on foot.

Disassemble and spread his gaming gear around the house, garage, yard etc sin places that require effort to reach and retrieve.

If not too inconvenient, pull the fuse to his power points and lock the fuse board. Tell him it's buried in the garden.

Let him have the erky green pimps rug, but liberally lace it with itching powder.

I hear the "World of Warcraft" game is so addicting that so guy played it for three days straight then committed suicide afterward. I also hear the in China they have an "internet-addicts" anonymous program as well.

World of Warcraft has another name - World of Warcrack.
You dont need to have ever played it to guess why.

Everquest (another MMORPG) is often called Evercrack too.

But I think we all obsess in our own ways - and teenage obsession is natural. I expect he'll grow out of it and become obsessed the usual suspects soon enough. (delete as applicable - beer, porn, beer, porn, etc.)

He can't sell his bed on ebay if your parents bought it. I agree with Slaphappy, get him a soccerball, rubgyball, basketball, etc. At least try and vary his interests so he doesn't JUST play computer games.

I am currently playing World of Warcraft, and have met these so called addicts. The game is engineered to keep you playing for a long time, this no doubt. However, if you are an avid video game player, you get more value from World of Warcraft. The standard video game costs $50-$60 brand new and most gamers will burn through that game in a month or two. A monthly subscription for World of Warcraft is $15 a month, so if you play games a lot, you actually save money playing World of Warcraft, since there's so much you can do in the game. However, the game isn't made to be addicting nor does it imply a sense of forcing you to play, as I've said to another member in a kind of friendly PM discussion, humans have a choice of free will. Sure you might like playing video games, but in the end its something you choose to do and not in the hands of the games creators. Don't blame the game, blame the stupidity/weakmindedness of the person. The "addicts" are just people obsessed with a fantasy world who can't pull themselves from it.

It all comes to one thing, discipline.

Some people would sell their souls for another month on World of Warcraft. I know Ima is that way, she loves that game.

I have no cardio endurance capacity at all, I feel like i'm going to die after about the first kilometre Laughing

as for online gaming, I play LOTRO and GTA IV whenever I can, but the wife has recently discovered facebook and is studying, so my computer time at home is severely limited Crying or Very sad

Yeah when I finally got myself in shape, I realized the importance of it, and have vowed not to let myself go that far again. Its a real eye opener when you're out on the track 4 in the morning and you're huffin and wheezin all over yourself and you puke your guts up when you finally finish. It sucks but is a good feeling.

My brother abandoned his bed around the age of 17-much cooler for all his friends to lounge around on pillows and such while smoking unusual aromatic mixtures.He is 47 now,and I made the mistake of buying him an xbox 360 for christmas-he still sleeps on the floor,but now it's next to the video game,and I've lost the use of the TV!
