About two years ago a group of baiters on this forum were quite active fighting charity scammers who were raking in funds by abusing the information and websites of organizations dedicated to fighting the disease Noma, which afflicts mainly the poorest people in Africa and elsewhere.

At the time I was in frequent contact with Chris Lawrence, chairman of this charity which is doing great work in Nigeria and Ethopia.
Very recently Chris contacted me again by mail. I quote:

EDIT: Their own donation page could be improved too http://www.facingafrica.org/FA08/content/site/en/pages/donatenow/default.asp has no protection at all!

I remember the scammers who tried to steal money intended for the NOMA charity.
I think it's time to saddle up a possee and chase them varmints out of town again.
We know that the charity helps and cares for children in Africa suffering from disfugurement by disease, so terrible we would not be able to publish the pictures here.
I'm older and more vicious - evil beyond measurement - I'm coming. 
These scammers are the lowest creatures inhabiting the swamp scum imaginable.
Are these the addies that bounced Dr. Max Wieldruk ?

the only entry we have is that phone number (+447035900100) and the phone number of the registrant (234.8036358383) that is located in Nigeria, so we need a trick to get him in the open. (verzin een list Tom Poes  = old Dutch cartoon line, Max will know)

Maybe not warn him, just pull an addy out of him before the site gets closed and make the promise to spread the word so he should expect lots of emails from all kind of people as his case and kids will be mentioned on the BBC show later this week/month. And for nottobescammed you might get him to send a small video so you can show that on TV in a follow up program.
You can mention another producer will contact him (as soon as I have the email addy) for a live show on the BBC to help with the fund raising

I would have thought the chance to do a telephone interview on a live international radio show putting out the case for donors to pledge him money should appeal to a scammer.
It wouldn't be belly laugh stuff, but if you preface it and add at the end what he is doing, it would be quite powerful to show how low scammers go, with maybe a confrontation at the end asking him to justify scamming sick children in Africa. Ask him how scammers justify that against their usual claims that the victims deserved it, should suffer for being stupid and with their oft claimed Christian beliefs.
A plug for the charity at the end - would round it off nicely. |

And then to think I was more than willing to send some of the flu virus over there ... (attn. chair person of this fake org. of course) ...
Just think of an angry bull getting ready to attack the bullfighter ... that's how furious I am this afternoon, thinking about this idiot trying to abuse a real and honest charity.

God I hate this type of scam. Both guns are locked and loaded if some baiting needs to be done. I will wait for a go ahead.
Also, if and when folks want the number dealt with, I'm sure it could be included in a mass insult bait. The lad will have a few dozen angry other scammers calling it at all hours. Just an idea. |

He will use another email addy to access his victims, the site is just there to add credibility to his request.
He stopped using the site in order to get not too much attention and closed the email addy's, he will open it up again when money is needed or the heat is off.
He wasn't successful in making a profit there and has abandoned the plan.
It still needs to be taken down to prevent future abuse of name and domain. |
