I just googled my (real-life) self, and lo and behold, came up with several hits. I especially liked my linked-in profile--considering I never set one up! I had actually been thinking about it as it is the one most recommended for career opportunities (I may be out of a job in the pretty near future) but hadn't done it yet, so imagine my surprise to see my profile including (accurate) employer and current title info.

So if you haven't googled yourself lately, just a reminder that it's a good idea to do it every once in a while to check and see what's out there...

My real name, real e-mail, et cetera turn up multiple pages of hits because of my job. (I'm not famous, though, so my autograph's worthless - sorry, folks!) Smile

Some interesting result on my name.
A limerick on a soccer team website that states something about my namesake being in your mum's bum Shocked

sorry, cant explain any more on that one Wink

It seems I have a Russian namesake who sends spam
And something on a South African site that I couldn't read.

Funny thing is I never though my name had South African or Russian origins, I always thought it was more of an Irish name Confused

Searching on my wife's name will pretty much lead you to our doorstep, she isn't as careful about internet security as i am and for whatever reason I dont seem to be able to teach her Crying or Very sad

I check out my real name, and all that comes up is the name of well known British mystery writer (First and last names are the same) so I think that I am quite safe.........must get more of those books.....

My real name only pulls up about a dozen results. One is a lighting director for several popular sit-coms, and one is a professor at a university. I've never found any hits with my personal info. Wink

Not boasting -- far from it because frankly it scares the crap out of me -- but currently a search for my real name (in quotes to eliminate random mismatches) brings up 2,290 hits, almost all of which are me. That's just crazy. Shocked

I'm old-fashioned and love my privacy so I am very spooked by this phenomenon.

I just did a google check on my RL name.
What came up was pretty much what I expected.

The picture search was surprising though. Only about a dozen pics turned up, and one of them was the logo for Pizza Hut Confused

Now I do enjoy the occasional pizza, but that's about the extent of my connection to the corporation...

Ego-googling! I think that's what is was called a couple of years ago anyway. Tried it again just now and found no trace of myself among the first three pages at least. I like being invisible(ish).

I graduated magna cum laude with honors from a prestigious performing arts college and have an illustrious teaching career in Hollywood. I've taught some of the best.

And to think everyone thought I'd amount to nothing when I grew up. Hmph!

I get about 118 hits for my name. It's about 40% for me on fishing and poker, 40% for my father (who has the same name) with his involvement in teaching and stage acting in the 60's and a few random hits for some guy here in Florida who murdered his wife.

about the same number of hits and %age as SSA. Nothing spectacular. Just a few notable things:
- those pictures from when I received that award in front of 20,000 people with lots of dignitaries presend. The wife (at that time) couldn't make it because she was having her hair braided that day, which is the primary reason i remember.
- That stupid pickerel I caught which turned out to be the biggest one caught in 2006. My brother in law insisted that I send in the declaration form. They take their fishing very seriously in some parts of the country.
- that relative of mine with the same name who was stabbed to death in the 1600's.

other than that it would appear that my name only brings to mind a lifetime of personal spam!! Laughing

Several hits for my name. No one famous or special. The real me only gets mentioned once on page 3, I think it was. But it does take you right to my address. Sad

No pics of me at all. Several others that have the same name as me.

But let me tell you...DoraTheExplorer...she is all over the place! Laughing

Hmmm... the top searches were:

1) Me on facebook (where my public profile is very limited)
2) Me on LinkedIn (where my public profile is limited)
3) Me on Naymz (which I swear I've never used - although the profile was mostly blank but I'm pretty sure it's still me).
4) A bad picture of me on someone elses online photo album. Sad

Then a load of things that weren't me but were to do with a popular film from a few years ago which had 2 characters that I share names with (i.e. one of the characters was called <firstname> and the other is called <surname>). The scripts are all over the internet and so lots of hits there.

So not invisible but not majorly trackable either.

Without the speech marks, there are a lot of hits on my names (both married and unmarried), but none of them are me.

With the speech marks, there's not so many.

But put in my email address or the alias that I use elsewhere on the internet, and I'm all over the place.

Rather disturbing.

I'm lucky enough to have an incredibly common RL name. 656,000 hits, and counting. It turns out I'm an amazing guy--artist, singer, college professor, high-tech executive, at least 100 wives, philanthropist (and philanderer), researcher, swordsmanship teacher, alive, dead for 400 years, revolutionary, you name it.

I'm sure the real me appears first on page 8.
