hi there; i ve been plagued with scam e-mails all last year ; 4 or 5 a day; would like to get my own back a bit; question ! is it possible that one of them could trace my URL if i really piss him off ??

Err, welcome to eater. If you have your own website, then as long as you don't give scammers your real details, they cannot find your URL.

However, I suspect you mean IP address, which they may be able to find out unless you use GMail, which hides your IP from them.

But even if they have your IP it's very difficult (but not impossible) to match that IP to you. They'd more than likely need a court ordering your ISP to divulge your identity. Not very likely.

As long as you bait safe, using gmail, hushmail, or fastmail and use all fake details, you will be fine. Read all the stickies, sign up for a mentor, visit Eater University for more tips. There is some more information about IPs in several threads. I know this is one that is going on right now: http://forum.419eater.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=155254

I bet if you did a search, you might find a few more.

Essentially, if you use gmail, it (along with several others, I think Bigstring is another) will strip your IP. Hotmail and Yahoo do not.

You can always check and see where your IP shows you to be. Send yourself a test email and then check the headers here:

http://headertool.apelord.com/headers

Remember to sign up with fake details!

thanks for getting back to me so quick; i have opened an e-mail account with google; is this the same as g mail and do i fill out forms and stuff @googlemail or @gmail

Yes, it is GMail, and you can fill forms out with either.
