In my spare time I've been baiting a few dozen lottolads using scripts (btw, if anyone's annoyed with the limitations of gmail's canned responses, the Clippings add-on to Firefox is pretty brilliant). Granted my character wouldn't know a shift key or an apostrophe if they double-teamed her, but this amuses me:

(I can't figure out what precisely triggered that - neither his email address, name or company come up in a search of my mail. I'll email him to express my own confussion; one never knows...)

Good luck getting back into their graces by finding the winning notification, or maybe offer a bribe.

I have a bad habit of deleting the original spam from my catcher account after replying to it from my baiting account. This almost bit me when someone replied requesting the number of the winning ticket and the amount won - but I ran a search on the email addy and found a 2004 format of his in the 419eater archives, so gave him the numbers from there.

(Meant to add, re the one I gave old ticket numbers to, he accepted them without a peep. Whether someone would accept ticket numbers from an entirely different format I don't know - but may start finding out since I see no reason why I should be less lazy than they are so intend to keep a spare set handy for anyone who asks.)

The one who's disqualified me - no idea why. I sent off an email a few hours ago and will keep y'all posted if I ever get any reply.

I'm pretty sure you could reply to their format, including the text of a completely different format, and they'd still let you claim your prize.

I think this lad must have been baited before. It's funny that they have used these winning numbers and codes on the emails for years, but never asked for them. It shows that we are having some kind of effect on them. Smile

I've been disqualified also. Crying or Very sad

Sometimes its an attempt to get cash out of me for a form that that the lawyer has. I always dangle cash. I tell them that it must be because I just switched over to a new laptop. Computers features change so much and the keyboards get grungy so every 6 months I get a new one and give the old one to charity. Its only 4 thousand pounds and after the tax deduction, its almost free.

Found out why I was disqualified.

First, a bit of background about gmail. You can send an email as if it were sent from another account (with confirmation from the owner of that other account of course). This struck me as very handy and I set mine up so I could email as any of my characters from a single account. I sent a few off like that too -- until I noticed that in the headers it inserts a line showing the address of the account you're logged into. Then I stopped doing it, just in case someone was smarter than the average lad.

Well, this guy's smarter than the average lad - he's just written:

Dear sir/madam i want y0u t0 c0mfirm this email address which is the winning email [my main acc0unt email] if the 0wner 0f this email is y0ur wife,husband,child,0r relative please be endev0ur t0 inf0rm him 0r her t0 write bank with that winning email.

That's okay then. It so happens that my main account is the aunt of the character writing to him. Niece was sending emails from aunt's computer over Christmas/New Year and must have got confused. Aunt doesn't believe in gambling anyway and it's not fair letting the prize go to waste like that.

I have one in French telling me I won, and albeit after baiting it. It will change to English and tell I was disqualified even though my character only speak French! Laughing
