I put up a posting on Craigslist asking for a broken psp, and a guy sent me this email:
Quote:
Thanks for the mail... I am not in the state presently and i will like you to get back to me with your Paypal email address so that i can send the payment to you via my PayPal account and you can help me ship it to the confirmed address from PayPal, cos i cant really pick the item up from you due to my busy schedules at work. Furthermore,.Am buying this item for my Son in oversea as a Xmas gift...........I will add $100.00 USD for the shipping cost i will be responsible for the shipping of the item and handing fee via USPS Mail signed..

Get back to me immediately
Regards

If i am not mistaken, this IS a scam. I posted to craigslist warning people about this slimeball.

But can this guy possibly be baited? I was going to just disregard it but maybe it is possible?

I will not be upset if i can't or anything, but I would just like to know.

that's easy. if he replied to your safe email addy, a simple

"I am interested in your offer, please tell me more" should get you going.

Give this topic a read: Click

It isn't specific to overpayment scams, but some of the methods can be easily adapted.

This topic in the Eater University Forum has some good info as well. If you have specific questions as you get things rolling feel free to post questions in this thread, or over in the Hints and Tips Forum.

Very Happy

^^Odds are good he'll answer. Craigslist scammers answer tons of adds and often don't even know what it is they are supposed to be buying.

They can be difficult to bait, since they are usually looking for a quick score and know they don't have much time before their checks blow up, etc.

While you're in your safe account, why not grab a few other lads from Surplus and send out "I think I can help" emails to them as well. Casting a wide net can be a good way to find a truly special lad.
