I tried selling a painting once on facebook.com and the person really seemed interested. I foolishly gave my address to them but it did not matter they gave me a bogus tracking number for the check they did not send. It was not even a valid number then they were going to claim I never sent the painting. What a jerk!

I listed it for $500, I had painted it myself. Here is the thing that got me about this person they said they wanted it and I gave some info, nothing that they could use to steal my identity which has happened to me before, twice. He said he wanted to pay me $2300 and I could send him the rest of the money back. I could tell right away this was some scam, I told him that I would accept $500.00 and asked why it was such a big deal.

He said that a client, apparently he was saying he was a lawyer based on our conversations. And that the client owed him I think it was $1800.00 I did not want to get in the middle of it, but regardless of what I said he was trying to proceed with the scam. I told him I would relay this and any further emails to the authorities since the tracking number was bogus. I never heard from him after that. But he tried pulling the legal card on me first by saying I received the check when I had not and that I would not send the art. LOL

That sounds like a classic overpayment scam. They send you a bad cheque, you put it in your account and wire them the difference, then anything up to 6 months later, the bank can (and will) come looking for you, and you are legally responsible for the lot!
