This is my introduction topic, apologies if its in the wrong forum, feel free to move it moderation team.

Im fairly new to scambaiting, but absolutly love it. i currently have 3 on the go and thought i would join your fine community for inspiration on were to take them, and if things play out well i'll also submit some of my own.

Thankyou for the welcome, i actually didnt realise scambaiting was a sport, i just kept getting these emails and i wondered what would happen if i actually replied to one so i set up a fake email address and replied.. the rest is history as they say. a google search actually brought me here.

I Do have a question already, ive noticed a few of your topics mention using a email provider that strips your IP, can someone recomend a good FREE email provider that does this?

Gmail does what you ask and is free. some lads are said to shy away from Gmail accounts, perceiving the user as a joker.

I use many gmail accounts, don't have much of a problem inflicting pain.

Gmail, Fastmail.co.uk, to name but two.

I doubt many (if any) lads bother to check headers, and even if they did, I can't believe there is anything in it for them to bother following up, but it's best to play safe.

I'm using a couple of [email protected] and the lads seem convinced I'm in the USA.

Hotmail does show your IP address. I sometimes still use a yahoo account. We just err on the side of safety.

Very concerning.. i think i might stop scambaiting these 3 i have going now and start a fresh with a .yahoo.com address.

I would use gmail but i want them to respond lol.

Hushmail is another one that strips IPs. If Donato's linky puts your location too close to home, then you might want to use one that strips IP addresses. With my ISP, I could be anywhere inside a 100 mile circle, so I'm not too worried. I use stripping ones anyway for baiting, because it is a bit safer.
Some people take baiting very seriously, others don't. But we all get a good laugh regardless, and feel we are doing some good around here.

EDIT: just saw your last post...you could just change the address to gmail..they probably won't even notice. But if it puts you too close to home, and you are uncomfortable, drop them and get a few new ones, or just Re-bait them from the new address from scratch using new characters.

They respond to gmail-it's all i use and i've never had a lad not want my 'money' because of it.

Yahoo doesn't strip your IP either. The only three that do are gmail, fastmail and hushmail anything else and you're back to where your IP puts you. Oh and workplaces, colleges etc tend to have static IP's that can be traced too.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I meant to say that I still use a yahoo account sometimes, even though it does show my IP. My IP isn't static so it doesn't bother me that much.

It made more sense in my head. I think that's were I go wrong...

Lol oh well ive signed up to yahoo and emailed a couple of scammers now.. ill let you guys know how it goes.

I Think my IP is static but from looking at that site it just says im in manchester, that dosnt worry me becuase A. im not in manchester, im just outside and B. There's thousands and thousands of people in manchester.

I also like using www.fastmail.fm - This does strip your IP.

You'll be fine. It's only likely to be a problem if you're bating from work, and your employer has an IP address that can be traced to your building.
The chances of a lad coming after you are low, but why take chances?
Verbal abuse is the most you're likely to encounter. And highly prized.

If you'd like to keep your Yahoo accounts, you can open a gmail account, add the yahoo accounts to it, and send the mail from gmail so it looks like it came from your yahoo. Just go into gmail's settings, add the yahoo account, and compose a mail. You will then have the option to select which alias to use. Of course, replies will still go to the yahoo account, but it's a way to keep from starting over if you don't feel like it. Wink
