A reflexion about scambaiting ethics

Edited: The previous title for this thread was "What would you do?". It was a mistake by my part to use that title, as I am not asking for my next steps, but for a reflexion about a hypotetical baiting case.

I have sent the "TW@T for dummies" Sister An1t@ B@th mail to a bunch of lads. Everything is going right, but one of them has confused me really a lot. It goes like this:

How are you and your family may God bless you,thank you very more for your reply,i am very happy to hear from you,now tell me what to do because i am out to work with you,please note I HOPE this is a scam.pls let me know because i am a scammer.... but i have repented,and i have to tell you the truth ,if you want to work with me please tell me know, I WANT TO JOIN THIS CHURCH ONLY IF YOU CAN HELP ME ...TO MAKE IT.......This is my number +234XXXXXXXXX...CALL ME

I know this could be real or not. I'll try to bait him using another email account to check it.

But just for a moment, imagine that lad has really changed his mind, and has decided to quit scamming because of TW@T Church and our promises.

What would you do then?

If we make his life miserable, all in the name of our baits, I think he'll probably end up scamming again. If we just let him go without baiting, I think maybe he'll definetely quit scamming.

So which would be the right choice for you?

^ wait for his reply to your 2nd baiter account, and then ask the same question again. I'm afraid I know the answer, but it's a good way to check from a different addy.

Rule #1: Lads lie.

Send him the standard "I'm interested, tell me more" response from a different address. I think you'll know very quickly what your answer is.

I was just wondering... "What if...", you know. I am pretty sure he will try to scam my other character, but what if he did not? That is why I started this thread. I mean, It could happen...

Lads refer to scambaits as 'scams'. I guess he meant to say he hopes he isn't being baited.

Anyhow, chances are if you feel uneasy that your lad might be trying to go straight, send him a message from another email address stating you're interested in his proposal. Guarantee you get a script.

With thousands of lads to choose from, just drop him if you are unsure. Hypothetically speaking, of course. Wink

I think the lad meant to type, "I hope this is not a scam." Lads mistype things just like we do sometimes. But I still think he is a scammer. ASEM him to make sure. If he doesn't bite, then just drop him. Smile

For the next few days I'll just be asking him for information on his scams, victims etc.

Where did you get his addie from ?

I only bait addies that arise from scam mails I receive so I never have any doubt whether or not I am dealing with a scammer.

Another way to check is to remove any dashes from his phone number and google it. If it's being used in scams you may find them that way.

In two years I think I have dropped two because they may have been more foolish than scammers. Sometimes a scammer falls for a bait so easily it may give you doubts, but that's just your good luck.

Lads will say anything and I mean ANYTHING to get you to believe their crap and/or feel sorry for them. My guess is he just figures the ex lad bit is the best way to approach you.

If you think about it, he has gotten you, a baiter, to think he might actually be telling the truth. That's what he wants. He's just laying the foundation for his story.

You don't need to bait him from a different addy. Just wait a day or two until he hits you up for cash.

That's 100% lad. So remorseful yet it's still "me, me, and only me". I expect this "help" he wants will be in the form of a MTCN.

If you are uncomfortable in the least bit though just drop him and move on to another. You shouldn't ever do something that you don't feel right about.

Well, at this moment I don't feel uncomfortable at all. He's just another lad right now.

I will feel uncomfortable if I try to bait him with another character and he goes NO, or if he does not ask for money during all the process.

I have asked him how much and how many people he scammed, so he can get "redemption". Anyway if I don't end up nagging him, he'll be a very valuable source of information for my curiosity Smile

Oh, sorry.

Actually he is writing from an email account I have not sent any mails to.

I guess I sent it to one of his scammer accounts, and answered with another account. I have already asked him in which account he recieved the first mail. That is the one I'll try to bait again with another character.

I am sure that the original email account comes from a huge list of scammer addresses I found in the net, which is the only source I have used for the TWAT Church modality. It has no addies, and that is why I am not doing absolutely anything until I can be completely sure that he is a scammer.
