I sent a lad from Benin city to Dikwa to collect a bank transfer, It was an honest mistake gov I thought they were on same side of country!

Well he wanted western union, started arsing about, convinced him to accept a bank wire, I picked a bank really far away and sent him on his way. The sending bank was floyds bank Wink

I'm thinking of skyping the bank and telling them about this fraudster who will try and get a none exsistant transfer

You are checking the originating IP of the lad's emails, right? That's one way to help confirm a safari.

I am, I'm running them through a GEO-IP tracer.

Whats the opinion of telling the bank and getting him arrested?

EDITED TO ADD: I've never heard of anyone trying to warn the bank beforehand.

I can't say though that I'm optimistic about the chances of west African law enforcement being interested.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try.

^^^ I'm not sure that it's a good thing to lie to law enforcement, even their law enforcement, in this situation (or in any others, come to think of it). That might be breaking the law. I said in another thread yesterday, my rule of thumb is that it's the lads who break the law, and not us.

Why does he not like the idea of work, He is ment to work to work for "fedex" so don't they have vans :S

EDIT: I know I mean bribe as talk to someone to say if they arrest this lad they might get that promotion because they look good infront of the cheif

Even a Western bank would not accept any unauthenticated instructions from a stranger by phone, and would not even confirm or deny the existence of any transaction they were handling.

As the payment doesn't exist, no crime has been committed and 419 crime is so commonplace many there do not consider it a crime.

It has been known that some banks have become so fed up with scammers that they have had them arrested by police, but that's a rarity.

If you get him to travel, that will be punishment enough, and once a Lad has travelled they are usually unwilling to let go of the hope that there is money at the end of the rainbow.

Same country safari's are quite hard to confirm. I've had several I've been unable to confirm 100% - I usually send lads to places I know something specific. That way, when they return home to email me of their disgust I ask them what they saw or who they spoke too.

I usually try and confirm a safari with a few safari experts. Simba constantly denies me my pith icons. He's a bastard like that.

Unless you get a GEO-IP trace then it will pinpoint the lad within a half mile, unless he is using a proxy, I went on download dotcom and found some trial software on there that actually works.

In regards to your lad. I hope you've packed your bags and gone into hiding? That threat sounds really serious.

edit: with same country safaris, the lad will often just travel home to send his email of disgust. If he does bother to stop at a nearby cafe, then it's a different story and easier to confirm.

I haven't attempted very many safaris, but I too would have that confirmed by an outside expert or two. My thinking is that everything that a lad says is a lie unless proven otherwise.

Good for you. Ask him to contact you while he's there if he runs into any problems. That may help to get the IP address so you can earn your pith helmet.
