I though here is a good chance to see if 419 is about payback for slavery, a popular line trotted out by lads to justify stealing money from people. So I thought I'd answer back making sure he knows my guilt about slavery (it is not my intention to make light of such a subject as a white person I do genuinely feel guilt about the slave trade I just want to find out the lad reaction to such comments). We have happily seen lads take money intended for life saving medication for children (etc) but will an admission of guilt about slavery make him take pitty on his maga and come clean that he has been working a scam? I suspect not but I will post his response if he gives me one.

My opinion is the lad won't tell you it's a scam and will ask you to make payment via Western Union at the earliest opportunity.

I have a hunch your probably right there Donato but I hope he expresses some sort of view, I will be interested to see his response or whether he will just forget about it and get back to the business of scamming me.

Interestingly he brought up the election, I never mentioned it, he has sent himself off script. What can I say? Some baits are just easier than others Laughing

I'm not one to get political with my lads and I'm even less political when it comes to these forums. Politics haven't even come up in my baiting.

One thing I tried once in a bait was to try to engage the lad (who claimed to be a banker) into a discussion as to whether or not there should be a gold standard or if the central banks should be relied upon to stabilize the economy.

I then got some weird answer about how his girlfriend cheated on him since he wasn't making that much money being a banker. Rolling Eyes

Whilst not wishing to step into political/racial issues, I would be interested to hear your lads views/opinions on the complicity of African tribal chiefs who sold their own people up the river into slavery.

And not all of 419 scams come from Nigeria. I get plenty of checks from scammers in the US, and Canada. Greed has no border!

People steal in the UK because it's always raining and kids vandalise stuff because they have nothing to do in the evenings.

It's excuses, and let's face it, if the USA paid Nigeria a trillion dollars in reparation to the government there, the scammers wouldn't see a cent of it.

The economic and social problems facing Nigeria and other West African countries have nothing to do with any colonial misdoings and are here and now not in some dim distant past.

The most enlightening thing is when you play the part of a victim going over to Africa and hear the scammers' warnings about their own countrymen.

Truth is - you won't get any objective or intelligent view from a lying thief.

If that is the case, can not Canadians and US people on this board help to get those in their own countries arrested? I know that trying to get someone in another country arrested is near impossible. But if you have a Canadian, UK or American scammer, why can't those within the country to try help get them arrested?

Our laws are much different then they are in Africa and they certainly would be dealt with if handed over to the police?

^^^^ Law enforcement resources in many jurisdictions, including mine, are spread very thin. In my last conversation with a cop who was investigating a break-in at my neighbor's house, he told me that he goes from call to call to call, and does not have time to make patrols in those nieghborhoods that are getting hit.

Well, our laws are not that much different from Africa, except they are probably easier to wriggle out of with all the built up precedent.

Anyway, it isn't about laws. It's about evidence and crime.

You need a crime to have been committed, and you need evidence that a certain person committed it. A bait does not create a crime. You know the guy is a criminal. You are not going to be defrauded. Most baits would probably be entrapment. The lads in the USA, UK etc. are more careful than the ones in Africa, and we get precious few pieces of hard evidence against the Africans.

Where we do get hard evidence, it is passed on and I am sure some of it has helped to put away some gangs. Probably the most useful thing a baiter can do is to pass bank accounts to Alan. That allows hard evidence to be collected.

The most prestigious icon you will see in a signature line here is the golden shield which means a baiter has got a lad arrested. It is very very rare, but what none of us see is the small help we have been to an investigation that has put a scammer away. We will never hear about it, but I'm sure it happens.

i have travelled all over East and Central Africa and I can tell you; the Nigerians are pretty much universally dispised as being fraudsters and generally untrustworthy. People also get a good giggle out of how superstitions they are as a group. I have, on a number of occasions, told a lad about a dream that I have had and, let me tell you, they take this stuff very seriously. It is always good fun.

While living in east africa I ahve had a chance to watch a bit of local television (when there is power). The Nigerian dramas are a blast to watch. they are always filled with supersitions, ghosts and strange beliefs. Other countries air these programs as comedies. I heartily recommend them for anyone to watch. It gives you a great insight into their culture and certainly explains the lack of moral values that seem to persist in West Africa.

So the lads protestations about 419 being payback for slavery is just the bolderdash we suspected/knew it was all along. Could you expect any morality from a "man" who is using the London Bombings as a cover story for his vile little scam? Mad
