About 2 weeks ago I put a car up for sale on Craigslist here in Oklahoma. I am selling my daughters 1995 T-Bird. Now this car is worth about $1000 if I am lucky.
Within 10 minutes I began receiving responses wanting me to stop the ad and sell the car to these scammers. They told me they would send anywhere from $3000-5000 and that I was to cash the check and then go to Western Union with the cash difference and send to their private shipper..
Well I started getting a few checks and international money orders in and of course they are fake and counterfeit but I have been stringing these guys along for 2 weeks now...So far I have collected $26,000 in fake company checks. Of course I have no intention of depositing these checks but they don't know that.
I even went so far as to tell one guy that I had cashed the check and then got drunk and went to a casino and lost all the money in a poker game..damm that made him so mad that he said he would have me arrested by FBI etc..all I can do is laugh about this and tell them to bring it on..
The 419 site is great and has some great advice..My goal is to collect $100,000 worth of checks to see if I can do it. I may even start sending the shippers the other peoples fake checks with my name whited out..just to mess them around more.
Hope to hear from some people who have had other experiences with these dopes and maybe have a new angle I can play on them.
Thanks. |

i really hope you are not using your real life home address and telephone number.
you are endangering yourself.
you so need to drop all contact with ALL scammers before one or his freinds(they do have friends in all parts of the world) 'might' knock on your door.
rule number one bait safe
set up a throw away e mail addy such as yahoo, hotmail or fastmail and bait them from there.
join eater premium section and have the pleasure of using a safe place for the cheques to be delivered.
better still sign up for a mentor or alteast read all the stickies |

Welcome landman! You sound like a natural.
While the chances of anything bad happening to you are slim, better safe.
I doubt sending checks to the shipping companies will do any good, they don't exist. Overpayment scammers don't go for goods, they just want you to send the extra cash back. Shipping provides a convenient excuse.
I'm sure you'll do well here with a little guidance. Your welcome PM should have a few pointers to get you rolling. |

I have set up a throw away email on Yahoo and if they ask for a phone number, I just give them the local OKC FBI number or a local Pizza delivery number..depends on the mood.
I did call one company on one of the checks and the guy was very nice and said they were fake but I scanned a copy of the check and UPS deliver sheet and they were going to their bank as mine was not the first check of theirs to be faked.
If if is not the car scam it is the phoney love scam where they show a great pic online and then after chatting on yahoo or aol, they end up saying some sad story of how they are in Nigeria etc..damm they never quit trying..so funny to hear all of the stories and bs..
Not too worried about any of these guys or friends of ever showing up..they want the money..not the trouble...
Everyone keep up the great work against these guys!! |

Try not to give out the pizza place number. I'm sure a (busy?) small business has better things to do then answer phone calls from internet scammers.
go to www.k7.net - it's free and you can get voicemails and the number cannot realistically be traced to you by any of these scammers. |

First yahoo doesn't hide your IP-wanna see how close your IP puts you to your front door click this http://www.ip-adress.com/ipaddresstolocation/
If you want to hide your IP address use gmail (aka googlemail), fastmail or hushmail.
I'd seriously advise dropping them, even if they don't have your email addy-those cheques got to you somehow (probably traceable)-write fakey on the cheques and get them framed or something. If you want cheques sent safely we have dropboxes available to premium members.
Read your welcome PM-pull up a chair, read the stickies (twice), get a mentor-go to Eater University, then pop down into the surplus section and grab a lad of your own.
Oh and the phonecalls come under the ITP rule and yes that even covers getting them to call the FBI, CIA, local cops etc. The people who get an annoyed lad on the phone i'm sure as others have mentioned have a lot better things to do with their time. |

Welcome,
Yahoo is fine, almost no lads know about IP's and most IP's are nowhere near your real address.
I agree that they wouldn't go to all the trouble of sending friends or going to your front door themselves. I believe there has only been one case I know of where a lad went to a baiter, and that was to his company and they said whoever didn't work here and turned him away. Best be safe anyway in getting an anonymous drop box. |

Remember the Innocent Third Party rule, the poor teenager taking orders at the pizza parlour won't thinkits funny getting irate check scammers phoning.
Dont try and pass on any checks, you dont want to end up coming to the attention of law enforcement agencies do you?
Otherwise have fun |

Appreciate all of the help and advise. Oh by the way the Pizza delivery number is just a dail in number and you have to put in your exisiting account and then order a pizza. You never talk to a real person..Only a computer that asks for your Pizza membership number ID and asks you to place a order. If you don't respond after a minute or so, it disconnects..
I am just going to keep the checks as a nice memory of messing with these guys..
Thanks again... |

@landman - Welcome to eater.
Giving the lads the pizza computer is still messing with an innocent third party, which we do not condone. I have a better idea. Give out another lad's number for your lad to call, then you can waste the time of two scammers at once. |
