Absolutely Bloody terrible day...

My rabbit was sick yesterday. She just didn't seem right. She was lethargic and I took her to the vet but they couldn't find anything wrong with her. I said she'd not eaten or pooped for 24 hours so they said watch her overnight and bring her back in the morning.

Anyway, I heard crashing and banging noises from the kitchen in the early hours of this morning. I ran in and she wasn't sleeping in her bed (she doesn't have a hutch, she runs around the house like a cat or a dog and she is litter trained).

She was having a seizure on the kitchen floor and the noise I heard was her kicking her food and water bowls over while she was seizing.

As I was on the phone to the vet and yelling at my partner to get the baby dressed because we had to take her to the vet, she died. It all happened so quick. I saw her seizing (like as if it was an epileptic fit or something) I ran into the bedroom, yelled at my partner to get the baby ready as we have to go - and then I was dialling the vet and running back into the kitchen when she just was limp and her eyes were open but she was unresponsive and I realised she was dead.

She was only 3 years old! Sad

I know some people might think she was 'just' an animal but I've been crying all day. I miss her already. Sad

I took her to her vets appointment this morning even though she was dead but they wouldn't do an autopsy so they held her body for me while I found a vet who would. But my partner had (accidentally) taken my bank card out with him so I didn't have money for a taxi and I can't drive myself so we missed the window to get her body to the vet in time for an autopsy.

Elder daughter has a house rabbit so I know how much of the family they can become

I am sorry for your loss.

And I am sure that nobody here will say that it was "just" an animal.
Many of us here have/had animals, and thus many of us know the pain that when a four-legged member of your family (because that's what they are, and not just animals!) has to leave us.
I have lost two cats, and was there when the cat of a friend got his injection, and I know that this is very hard.

I feel with you Daisy. And there are lots of others here who do too!

Daisy I am so sorry. I have lost 3 cats over the years and miss them all. They were each part of the family and like all animals have their own personallities.

As my family recently lost a pet (Cinderella the Guinia Pig), I share your pain. It is too bad that your rabbit passed away.
