My wife and I are looking for rental properties in the Albany, NY area, and she's been looking on Craigslist for places to check out. So she e-mails one guy and here's the response she got :

Painfully obvious, right? (My pets names? Seriously?) She already blocked his e-mail, especially since there was a SECOND listing on Craigslist that went to the same e-mail ([email protected]). Here's a link to the address in question:

If I had to guess, I'd say he took an old posting, changed the e-mail, and re-posted the listing. I was able to find the real owner's name so I could warn them, but not a phone number for them as it was unlisted.
I give this to the baiter-forum as a gift. Mess with this asshole to your hearts delight. I'd do it myself, but I don't have the time or sufficient know-how.

I'd love to see these guys run around. I'm looking for a place in the SF bay area, and seeing these pop up is insultingly frustrating to me. Bad enough that this market is overpriced and competitive.

To save you (or your wife) contacting them with a real life email why not just post the link from craigslist here, or you can open a gmail account with fake info and then ask the scammer for further details.

So the same exact add posted here in Denver, but I've already sent in my app info. I only started to research it because I had a bad feeling... Is there anything he can do with my info? Has anyone had anything happen to them yet? I'm new to the site, first time I've run into this. Any help would be nice.

If you want to bait this guy, make sure you are using a safe email addy, like gmail, fastmail, or hushmail. Make up all fake details. The scammer is hoping you will send the $1000 rent and $800 security deposit via WU, and then he disappears. But all kinds of problems can occur at the payment stage, none of them are your fault! You really want that house. Smile
