I get the impression that Stockwell Gardens estate is not - well - a premium address. Is that correct?

ETA - I should have added at the start that they expect Mal to bring $20,000 to that address.

It's actually not all that bad, in fact 2 bed apartment style properties in Blair house go for about £250,000, (about $410,000) which is at the middle of the market for that part of the city.

Blair house is wholely residential, so the office address is, I guess, stolen from the internet.

If you are a cocaine using, single parent, unemployed, and love being surrounded by violent gangs, drinking and vomiting in the stair wells, then it is probably quite a nice place.

I have only driven through that part of London (windows up, doors locked and mobile phone to hand with 112 set on a speed dial), but it is not the sort of place a you'd want to stop and ask directions in.

Very run down, the flats concerned look well past their sell by date.

Stockwell can indeed be a rough area, but like most "rough" areas of london, investment is turning things around, and once notorious housing blocks are being turned into very saleable flats. Blair house appears to be one of them. A search of estate agent prices confirms that.

This is VERY cheap, for London I mean ! Laughing

Probably not an horrible sector but I would qualify it as iffy based on the prices put forward by the fashion guy.

You and me both!

As I say, South of the river is dog rough whichever way you look at it, and I wouldn't want to walk around that part of town either. In fact, you only have to walk 5 minutes off any part of the South bank and you're putting your wallet / life at risk.
But property being as precious as it is in London, you will get these pockets of very presentable flats springing up with pretty prices to match. There's only so much real estate available.

It's also very convenient for transportation - short walk from the tube. A lot of people are willing to sacrifice some aspects of neighbourhood quality for good transport. All over London you find these pockets where very well-off people live across the street from notorious estates.

It's conceivable that your lad got the address from someone who lives in the area - in such cases it's common for them to change a real address they actually know by a little bit (ie, flat number), and there are some mugus to be found in that area.

there is one newsworthy connection - someone living in Blair House was implicated in the follow-up (attempted) London bombing on 21 July 2005
