I thought poppies were for Memorial Day Confused

That's when the VFW sells them here in the States.

I know it's at Memorial Day programs that the "Flanders Field" poems are always read.

^^ Same thing Titania, just called rememberance day here, and held on the nearest Sunday to November the 11th. (This year it's Sunday the 9th of November). Poppies are traditionally worn in the week leading up to it.

I don't know how to put a poppy on you, but I do know how to write verse, and here is what I wrote for November 11, 2008:

For centuries they’ve fought for us,
Rescued and protected us.
They’ve long preserved the peace for us,
Guided and directed us.

And now it’s time to think of them,
Set aside a day for them.
Our veterans – remember them,
Honor them, and pray for them.

We call it Veterans' Day in the US, so that's why the verse goes in that direction. My roommate (flatmate) is a veteran of the US Navy, so it's her day. Very Happy
