Anybody got experience with South African lads?

For the first time (at least that I can recall) I have received a mail from a South African lad. He claims to be there and also the IP checks out, so I guess this might be for real (as for as the location is concerned).

I'm still going to post the mail in surplus later on, but for now I'd like to get a bit of info as this is a first for me.

Anybody got experience with lads from South Africa? (I'm sure there is.) Are they any different from the "regular West African lad"? More clever? Better organized? More money that can be used to travel around to meet and kidnap me?

I asked the same question last year, I was embarking on a bait with 2 SA lads who happened to have all the money left over from the World Cup stadium building programme.

They have been my only two SA lads to date, but I didn't find them all that different. Their English was pretty good, and they were slightly more organised than some of the idiot lads I've dealt with, but not massively so. I believe it's more common for SA lads to work with a friend / colleague... keep your eye on those IPs when the character changes. The IP will change as well, but will stay in the same town. Mine were in Praetoria.
They seemed to have their own computers, so they will work at all hours of the day... they also seem to have a bit more computer knowledge.

Minor differences really, at heart they're just thieving lads. I wouldn't say that on average they're going to be any more or less devious than their Western cousins.

Edit: You asked if they have more money to travel... apparently they can be better funded, so there's every chance.

As others have said not that much different to other lads apart from usually having better English and tending to have more money - they are just as lazy and greedy as your average lad.

One thing to note is that there are qute sizeable communities of people from Nigeria, and other "traditional" scamming homelands in SA so your scammer could come from one of those (no disrespect intended to the majority of Nigerians in SA who are just there to make an honest buck)

One interesting thing I did find out about South Africa is that they don't have Western Union - good opportunity to go for some bank accounts!

I have baited a few S.A. lads and they do seem to be more educated and have better communication skills. I also find them much more likely to ask you to travel to meet them. Most of them ask you within the first few emails I find. I have had quite a few spend some time at airports waiting for my arrival.

I have baited SA lads. They all turned out to be Nigerians who had got into the county on education visas.

So they're not really any smarter than your average lad. They do tend to have access to better scam material though. As they're in SA, the lads back home tend to look up to them (probably trying to get the lad to sort out a visa for them) and they milk this fact for all they're worth.

Oh contraire, you can send WU to SA. My last lads were insistent on it...

There are fewer agents there, (only three in Johannesburg for instance) so maybe your lad told you that he couldn't use WU out of sheer laziness? Or maybe he was ignorant of the modality...

I was baiting some Nigerians who claimed to be in South Africa (no idea why) and there was an argument about Western Union.

I have found South African Lads to be more focused and to the point.

More like the European based scammers who are less easily drawn into the idiocy I usually serve up.
