Mass bait fake conference!

Many people here have not participated in a mass bait. A mass bait is when many baiters respond to a particular scam, and drown them in baiting responses. It effectively shuts that particular scam down, and wastes a lot of their time.

Some people havce debated wether or not such concentrated effort is wasted on a single scam, but it can be a very valuable learning tool, as well as a lot of fun.

I had the good fortune of participating in the "Bike Insurance Guy" mass bait of last year, which was great for me. I learned a lot of modalities to employ on scammers, was part of an ongoing bait that had a LOT of feedback, and loved it. I had My Philos respond to 400 questions on a sercurity form. It doesn't get much more fun than that!

I got this in my email account at the NGO I work for. I hate scams that target the non-profit sector as much as I hate any other scam. The email is a solicitation for a fake conference in Canada in December, which means we can fuck these people about for the next 6 weeks, and give them a bleak Christmas.

This is a fairly unsophisticated version of a common scam involving conferences, "grants", hotels, and what not. The ones I like the most have websites to shut down, too! However, eve though these lads lack a web page, they still suck, and need to be baited.

The scam: They are going to pay for the plane fare, the food, the travel expenses, maybe promise a stipend, but you need to send registration fees, or pay for the hotel, or... somthing. They say their donors will pay %70, generous, but it means that te victim will hav to come up with the %30. That is their angle.

Lets make sure their is a lot of interest in this conference, and they have plnty fo work t do to get what will be a very illusive %30!

This is an open bait. Anyone can get involved. A good first response is something like
"Gee, I am interested. Tell me more." and then go from there. Share your responses here!

By eating up these peoples time, they will be less able to steal from the few legitimate victims since they are wasting their time on a mass of baiters.

They are using an Italian email service, but according to this tool here: http://headertool.apelord.com/headers, they are in Senegal.

Lastly, don't worry about making a mistake on this. Judging from the initial solicitation, these guys are not smooth enough to be discerning, so you can have as much fun as you want. They may drop you if you go overboard, but them bait them from another email account. Asking lots of questions is good. Looking for steep discounts is also good. Group policy? Wheel chair accessible? Do they accept pedophiles? Etc. Above all, have fun!

yup .. me too. I hate anyone that tries to push the charity angle. We'll see how tolerant they are.

I guess I might try to register as a speaker. My speech "Child development also is child labour" will hopefully make people finally aware of the fact that it doesn't matter if you make children make shoes or develop programs and websites, it's still unethical.

I have not gone overboard in my first inquiry, and am setting the stage for some silliness (since I love that sort of thing). We want to send two goats to the conference, I am pretty sure, both to attend the conference, goats from Jamaica hardly ever get a chance to visit Canada, and to eat them, since Jamaican goat meat is the very best.

Hmm, I think Ju1ie L0na may have to make an appearance... how convenient, too, she lives in Toronto! But for this she may have to suddenly relocate to, I dunno, Hong Kong and then demand tickets.

Not that scammers aren't sickening enough in the first place, but people who try to trick people by saying their money's going to a good cause just make me mad.
