Imagine my excitement to find out I had just won 800,000 pounds (or was that Euros, it kept on changing) and all I had to do was wire the courier company some money to cover the "security fee" (must be like undercoating) and wait to receive a big fat bank draft. Oh boy! You'd think they would just deduct the security fee from the 800,000 pounds (Euros?) but I guess they just don't know how.
The cast of characters has included:
1- a big name courier company, who for some reason use a hotmail account
2- the 56 year old (with 4 kids) Head of the Foreign Dept Office (Payment)
- he was even nice enough to send me a copy of his Nigerian diplomatic passport, which he needed to work for a courier company in Madrid for some reason ?
3- the female executive assistant to the Head of the Foreign Dept Office
4- the Vetting and Verification Officer (also a fine and upstanding lady)
5- last, but not least, the dispatch officer (who also sent me a copy of his Turkish? passport) who will be the smiling face to deliver that big fat bank draft right to my door
After about a week of accidentally sending them misnamed fax files (.tiff is a common file extension for fax files, how that 3MB rpm file got in there I'll never know), misnamed photos (another rpm file got misnamed to .jpg, how odd!), faxing their cellphone number at 1am their time and a few other little accidents I think this little play, alas, has come to an end.
And here I had sold my used car after a hurricane destroyed my town (hence, no phones available and I'm living in a shelter), used these meager funds to buy an airline ticket to Madrid to meet one of them at the airport (my suggestion, trying to get another trophy) and they e-mailed me again and assured me me that I shouldn't go to Madrid.
Oh such cruel fate !
But wait, maybe there's hope yet ! The Vetting and Verification Officer has given me her advice as a mother, sister and friend that the best way to help my family back home (I may have mentioned I was working in North America to help support my family in southeast Asia) is to wire them the security fee directly. Like many internationally known courier companies, they can only receive funds through a Western Union wire transfer. Must be that whole "debt crisis" thing I keep hearing about.
The more vulnerable I appear to them the more insistent they are in getting what little I appear to have. I have finer things decaying in my composter, quite frankly. At least compost can be used to fertilize next year's garden, but these people? They just live off of deceipt and are without conscience. Compost is their moral superior. |
