I posted a laptop for sale awhile ago, and have received quite a few replies from people with msn/gmail/yahoo addresses that have been worded similar to "I hope the item is still for sale. I'm interested, send me your info."
They smell, to me, like the first stage at an attempt at setting up a fake cashier's check scam. Thoughts? |

Any time a reply says "item" instead of saying what the item is, it's more than likely a scam. If you respond at all, it should either be, "Sorry the item is no longer available" or "I only deal locally and for cash." But ignore/delete is probably the best way to go.
There is a very tiny chance that a legitimate buyer will answer like what you've received, but there are other legitimate buyers out there who will go along with your policy on payment. |

Thanks for the confirmation... I was figuring that was the case.
I'm going to post a spare letter I got in response to my laptop post if someone wants to bait him. It's a guy from Wisconsin with a son that urgently needs a laptop, but (gasp!) resides at the US consulate office in (gasp! gasp!) Nigeria. |

you could put it in the surplus section AFTER removing personal info from it complete with the header, someone here may bait them. |

Direct him to Ikeja, close to Murla Muhammed Airport in Lagos where there's a massive market in computers of all types he'll get for a fraction of the cost of anything he'll find anywhere else. He probably won't get a guarantee. On second thoughts he may get a guarantee signed by Bill Gates himself. |
