Hi Folks,

I know we have to be careful. That’s why I’m not disclosing my previous unwise username, although I do guard my online safety as a matter of course, so even that knowledge wouldn’t enable me to be easily tracked down.

Presumably a really angry lad exacts revenge. I’m not sure how they do that unless they come here or you go there. Or do they steal your ID to entrap someone else? I’m not sure how that works either. After all, they don’t have all your details, and the person they are trying to ensnare doesn’t know who lives at No 10, Nowhere Street, so a fake name would work just as well. Confused

Please enlighten me. Meanwhile I’ll try a search.

Safe baiting means the worst they can do is hit caps lock and rant at you (which is nice as it tells you you scored a goal). In the unsafe world, as people tend to use user ID's all over the place, little nuggets of information can lead to a usable profile of someone and maybe to an address - and maybe a particularly narked scammer may have a friend living locally who'll come and torch your car and poison your pets etc.

Most scammers will just move on and find another victim, but if any of them bore grudges of the calibre of baiter grudges, I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end, so it's wise to bait under completely fantasy characters with disposable details - no trail of real-life breadcrumbs to lead back home

How quickly we all forget about Usman Bello. While his name is automatically filtered by the forums word censors I must remind everyone who does wear tinfoil inside their caps of Bello and that he is always watching. It's not something we like to talk about. Please be careful baiter's.

Forgetting the issue of what a Lad may or may not do.

Which of these threats is more likely to concern you ?

Dear (your real name) I'm going to stalk your home at (your real address) and set fire to it one night while you sleep and plan to target your children/parents (their real names).

OR

Dear (comic name) I am flying to Kabukistan to murder your camel as you told me you worship it as a God.

Even if you do not believe threat one, it is unnerving whereas threat two only confirms that the scammer is an idiot. I have had to replace my best death threats in my siggy line as Shorty is an uber idiot, but I am told that I am hunted by most International Law Enforcement Organisations and am going to lose my entrails to a flock of mythical birds of prey amongst many more.

As long as you don't use any of your real life information you should be fine. Except if you get in Usman path.

If you take the correct precautions, you should be fine. I'm more worried about being run over by a tourist here in Florida than a lad tracking me down because I got his bank account killed. Most of them think I'm another lad screwing with them, I don't try to convince them otherwise.

One thing to keep in mind, not going into will lads/vlads go after a baiter, is that the internet, and the forums that permeate it, is full of nut jobs: stalkers, trolls, homicidal maniacs, and vindictive narcissists.

I'd suggest baiting safely just to prevent them from getting a hold of your real life information.

Yes, I've suspected this right from the start, so I've always been very careful.

I take it that guy with the name I can't spell (while I'm looking at a different post) is the one mugu who can do dreadful things to baiters. Twisted Evil

I don't know what search terms you used, but I found his entire life story on the first page of 598 hits. Don't get too paranoid; he leaves us alone and we leave him alone. He generally only goes after scammers and people who p*** him off.

I’ve done some searches and learned that He Who Must Not Be Named is not discussed on this board. Sad

However, if we leave him out of it and stick to run-of-the-mill mugus, is there anything more to say about the kind of revenge they may take for being baited, please, if they ever get hold of a personal detail?

Apparently if you do get a lad who does live in the same country as you (A Nigerian ex-pat in London who can't give up "the game" for instance). OR if you are crazy enough to actually travel to thier own country to meet them, they supposedly arrive at a meeting place with hefty "minders" lurking nearby if anybody causes them trouble. A few recent posts about baiters and lads in Britain have mentioned this. That can make taking photos of your lad for comedy purposes dangerous...

(so get another lad to do it for you!)

EDIT: BUT as i said when i first discovered baiting and intended to start it, so long as you are safe enough you can "mess around with people's heads at no risk to yourself. I mean, what are they gonna do? type at you?"

If you follow all the safe baiting advice on this board, then there is nothing the lads can do to you, other than signing up your baiting accounts for spam, or getting them closed, and sending you death threats and voodoo curses.

If you don't follow the safe baiting advice, then they might scare you when they do the same, but it is still unlikely they will do any more. There is just no profit in it for them.

If you don't follow the safe baiting advice and also really annoy them, ie cost them money, then you may get into trouble. Likewise if you go so far as to meet them face-to-face.

Baiting safe is safe. In fact it is safer than safe in the vast majority of circumstances. Almost no lads have ever tracked an IP address for example. I don't believe a lad would be able to get an address from a contract phone number. But there is a slim chance that such things may cause problems for baiters, and so we warn against the possibility.

Thanks! I guess that just about sums it up, and it would be nice if Last Exile's post was true when you think about the sort of things I read last night... Evil or Very Mad
