My girlfriend's friends came over and had to tell me about this and how they heard about on NPR. Then the question "Aren't you into that, did you hear about it?" To which I could only chuckle.

I already have one of them into scambaiting. Hope he joins up soon.

Add to that the fact these guys are criminals who steal from the most vulnerable and weak, except the fact that these scammers are cowards who steal as faceless and fictitious thieves from the safety of their own surroundings.

These guys received just a mere modicum of the pain and suffering they inflict on their victims, and what do they do? They go home and start scamming other innocent people again.

What is the most upsetting is people actually feeling sorry for these guys... it is unfathomable... they are not incarcerated, they are not being physically assaulted and the only danger they face is that which they choose to put themselves in. You offer that to most prisoners who have been imprisoned for robbery and I'm pretty sure I know what they'll choose.

YW, Jojo and Prof were approached by a scammer who wanted to steal their money, with no compunction and no remorse.

They played along, let him feed his greed and offered him a choice:

- Steal from a innocent victim; or
- Stay at home.

He chose to steal, he had no hesitation in sealing the fate of the victims, and what's worse, he'd do it again.

In other countries he'd be rotting in prison, a fate far worse than a voluntary trip to Chad. Yet this lad gets to go home and continue to terrorise the lives of those from whom he steals.

Sympathy for his plight? I have none.

Hi! I joined after hearing the NPR show. I was laughing and smiling the whole way through the show. Ira is great. Anyway, baiting sounded like so much fun I had to try it. I read through many pages on the site (too many hours, but it was fun.) I am now trying my first 'straight bait' on two NOK's. What does that mean, Nigerian Oil Korperation?

Welcome Mazin! To answer your questions:

- Some of the lads do know about this site, but for most of them they just can't fathom somebody doing things like we do without getting money out of the deal. It really is a unique mentality. Plus, Internet Cafe time ain't cheap, and rather than spending the time looking at this site they prefer to "work" on their scams. We have been visited by lads in the past. If you look at some of the baits you will see that names have either been masked, or edited ("Edith" becomes "3dith") in an attempt to thwart google searches.

- We have nothing to fear from the lads. The #1 rule is to "bait safe." Rule #2 is "See rule #1." The folks involved in this bait have more to fear from angry moderators than they do the lads.

- As for "the end", it never really ends. The TWAT church is still going strong (I think the last round of lads were lost), and Okey and his brother are back to scamming.

Stick around for awhile. Grab a mentor, pull up a lad, and have some fun.

NOK means Next Of Kin. It's the type of scam where the barrister or banker asks you to stand in as next of kin to help claim an inheritance.

Thanks for all of the kind words! I appreciate everyone tuning in. I am listening to the whole thing right now, for the first time. I missed bits and pieces here and there, so it's nice to listen to the whole thing. I am so glad they included CrismonSapien's phone call. It's hilarious.

I heard this on NPR yesterday evening, and spent all night reading this thread. Amazing!

I have an idea that perhaps you pros can work into your plans sometime... In the church of TWAT, aren't the clergy all circumcised? If they are truly committed, they should be. Before performing their good works for the TWAT, I believe your lads should be prepared to demonstrate they are worthy.

Hopefully, the day immediately following their circumcision, they could leave for their mission to Abache. At least, I'd hope for that!

Getting back to Miracle and Andrew. As you might remember, they haven't responded in over a week so they were declared dead and the church cashed a life insurance policy for $200k. The funeral announcement was sent by Ms. Woods:
