Nope, I stay away from all doctors, don't even trust them with the right papers Wink

It's all the basics why a scam works, victim knows he/she is balancing the law and is willing to pay for it. I would say both parties break the law here.

It's the old "getting something for nothing" thing. Granted, $1000 is not nothing, but it is far less than one would pay for tuition at an accredited university. And a thesis is not just a written paper - one must go through a long process, including several face-to-face meetings with appropriate professors and tutors before being granted the doctorate. Honorary doctorates bestowed upon notable persons are an exception, but even they require some body of work that can be pointed to.

I have known many Ph.D's and they did not just write to a website for their degrees. I do not feel sorry for these people.

What gets me is that both of these people mentioned in the story claim not to have know that St. Regis wasn't real. Both have other higher education, and know how the education system works. One even requested that her degree be backdated to 1985. I cannot believe that these people didn't know what they were buying.

After paying only $1,000 and making this statement, "I was totally unaware that the University of St Regis was not a legitimate academic body. I feel foolish to have been taken in by them" this woman really made a fool of herself. She had to know that no legitimate university would ever backdate a degree.

Both of these people knew what they were doing, and both had to know that to obtain a doctorate degree, more schooling would be necessary. They were looking for the title only.

No sympathy from me.
