I have to agree with shiver & rover - NOD32 is the best I've seen by a long shot. Haven't heard of NOD64 tho, must investigate that - is it twice as good?

No way... Avira Antivir Premium is the best, especially with the real time scanner...

Believe me, do not use an Antivirus software... Just get an free antispyware program like Spyware Terminator or Spybot Search and Destroy that have real time scammers

There is absolutely nothing wrong with antivisus software. Antispyware programs are not good at finding many viruses and trojans.

There are many great antivirus programs out there.

Yeah, you're right.

The problem I have is that I have McAfee, which is the worst you can get. So I have basically stopped using virus programs and have 3 antispyware scanners running at all times (Spybot, Avira, Spyware Terminator).

You should, however, have at least 1 good Antispyware program. I recommend Spybot Search and Destroy. World-renowned free program.

And if you are already infected? Download the free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Got rid of the aggravating Virtumonde trojan and Antivirus XP 2008 in one quick scan.

Everyone needs to watch out for Antivirus XP 2008. You do not even have to download anything for it to install; it showed up in a banner ad for me above, ran a fake scan IN THE BANNER AD, and then I was infected. Background charged, etc.

Avast is a very good one. I installed Avira, AVG and Avast on the computers I fixed.

I run Avast antivirus which is excellent. I also recommend Spybot S & D. Other good anti spyware programs are SuperAntiSpyware and Spyware Doctor.

My whole list of programs:

SuperAntiSpyware, Avira Antivir, Spyware Terminator, McAffee ( Evil or Very Mad

), Spybot S & D, AdAware 2007, Malwarebytes Anti-malware (only when infected already), Free Windows Registry Repair, and HiJack This (in case log needed to send to professional).

But even 3 scanners can't help when a rogue antispyware program installs itself through a banner ad Evil or Very Mad

It depends on how you use them. I usually run them in safe mode so that the Windows files aren't loaded letting them find more. They love to hide in the start up files and in the registry.

The 64 only refers to it designed for 64 bit operating systems.

I just ditched Norton. Downloaded Avast, Spy-bot Search & Destroy. Avast went fine, but Spy-bot wants money and there is no free. Sad

Spybot S&D has always been kept free by its developer so far as I know, although I do know he takes donations via PayPal, it is not necessary to pay to be able to use the program. If there is a download place that is saying you have to pay for it, it's a scam. It's been known to happen.

I had hundreds of infections and it only took away 20. It would rid of all if I would pay a one time fee of 29.99. Confused

I have tried about 5 different spyware programs and they all want money when we get to the point of removing the infections. Crying or Very sad

I'll get me purse and leave this box for now.

@corona : Spybot Search & Destroy is donation-ware. I've used it, and never had limitations to the number of infections it removed. I've cleaned PC's with hundreds of infections using a free edition.

Another free one is Ad Aware from Lavasoft. Haven't seen limitations of that one as well. I use the combination of both to keep my system healthy. Plus Avira as a free antivirus program. Avira Antivir shows a popup once a day after the update, if you can live with that this is a very reliable and lightweight antivirus proggie that always scores very high in benchmark tests.

I use Spybot and Adaware

I also run a registry cleaner now and again to clean out the registry

and i use AVG Free for Anti Virus

Never had a problem with any of them

I also fix people pc's when they get viruses and HijackThis is a Great tool but must be used with caution as u can remove critical system files

You should also install Spyware Blaster to keep those infections occurring in the first place. WinPatrol is another nice tool, especially if you need to visit dubious sites.

Daughter went looking for something for her puppy (on MY computer, of course) and got that damned Anti-Virus 2008 trojan. Only thing I could find fast to get rid of it was Malwarebytes, and it really cleaned things up. Bad thing was I was running Avast and AVG at the time and the trojan jumped around both of them. Now I'm keeping the Malwarebytes installed and running it whenever I find out the kid has been at my house Very Happy

Personally I like Dr. Web as an addon to Firefox to manually check out dodgy looking sites before clicking the linky.

Installing multiple virus apps is not a good idea in general. They are known to often conflict with each other, one denying the other access to infected files, and that's hardly what you want Wink
