I have this new church bait which i tried out on a lad . He asked for some money to fund his study . To take things short i asked him to become a member of my church and then be in charge of all the charity funds for Nigeria which is 50.000 euro's . He was not interested and is satisfied with only 500 euro's for his study . Shocked

I think he is a newbie because he doesn't have a script (yet) . By turning down my offer he ruins my bait , or at least my big plans for him so i just gonna torment him so much that he will regret the day he became a scammer .

Have you asem'd him from another account to see what he's up to, or ran his email addy through google?

Also, if you keep in mind that 50 euros is way MORE than the minimum monthly income (which most people don't even make), then 500 is a LOT.

He turned down 50,000 euros? Take him down - say the guy that you guys installed in his place ran off with all the charity money, so now you're going to have to raise some more, and that it requires him to meet some beneficiaries in other countries. Very Happy

He told me he only has a secondary school ID card because he can't afford a passport or a drivers licence . This St Anthony secondary school doesn't exist i googled on it .

What do you think of it ? To me it looks crappy and he thinks this will be sufficient to get the money from Moneygram . Well , he gives me a reason to ask for a trophy pic .

You can see the crappy photochop on the pic, it's actually too large to fit on the card, he didn't even get it aligned properly with the rest of the card, it covers part of the border, and the shading is off. Laughing

As you correctly stated, he is a *rank* amateur.

I would take advantage of the fact that he is posing as a recent high school grad, and offer him the small amount he is begging for. With conditions. Twisted Evil

Maybe you could offer him portions of the money over time. Successful completion of the previous task is required to remain eligible for the next payout.
The tasks that he needs to perform could be scaled to progressively larger amounts you offer him.
Of course, he will never progress beyond the first payout, but that is because he did not properly fullfill his obligations, whatever they are.

Keep giving him tasks, and offer to increase his payout in light of his "good efforts".

If he's a little bit smarter than a rock, he may be dancing for you for a long time. Very Happy

This is probably not going to be a popular statement, but it looks like the lad is just begging for money, and may not be running a scam. Yes, the documents look very phony, but I'm not seeing a 419 scam here. He may or may not be a student, but I don't see that as a reason to treat him like your normal 419 scammer. He's just begging for money over the internet.

What am I missing?

^^ And if he was just begging for money ? He works like a scammer at the first place by sending randomly emails to innocent people and asking to send money . If some people do send him money , and it hasn't got to be a lot , he thinks this is an easy income and much better then working and a new scammer is born . And i believe that real beggars don't have money for an internet connection .

Have you tried the "I have your payment for the trunkbox, where should I send it" ASEM? I've used that to weed out plain beggars from scammers.

Have to say that utterly woeful ID Photochop is nudging him toward "scammer" for me - if he was just begging why not say "I have no ID"?

Def: Scamming is procuring money by deception, whether that deception is a promise of financial reward, or the satisfaction of helping someone who is deserving of it.

This lad is clearly presenting a ficticious situation in order to gain profit (at least IMHO).
As Vampire stated, if he profits from this deception, it may lead him to a career in 419 scams.

The lad looks to be a rank amateur, I think it would be doing him a huge favor to show him how difficult it is (at least for him) to actually get money this way, and perhaps look toward a more reliable source of income.

Then again, I may be overly optimistic about him having a change of heart

I got a very similar email from the same guy, though correctly spelling Michael in his email and it was from gmail not yahoo. In the email to me, he didn't complain about Yahoo but instead said he had pneumonia (though horribly misspelled). He also didn't offer to send an ID card, but the tone and message were the same

My reply to him, though, was to completely ignore the request for money and wish him well and a speedy recovery. His reply today simply thanked me for the well wishes.
