Isn't it leading up to the Savoy?
I'm sure I was off my face one night and my mate told me that! |

I know that outside the US Embassy, at the zebra crossing (I read a lot of British books) there is a sign that says, "LOOK RIGHT" so unwary Americans don't get hit. |

Seminal is correct;
Savoy Place leading to the front entrance of the Savoy Hotel is the only street in the UK where the "keep right" rule applies.
The reason for this was to enable cabbies to open the door of the passenger compartment without getting out of the cab. This harks back to the days when the rear doors on cars opened the other way (this was changed when cars went faster and the doors tended to blow open if not properly shut, however the rule remained). The frightening thing is that as a child I remember cabs like that!!
In London you can park on both sides of the road in either direction, so it is not clear, but there is a picture of the Road here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savoy_Hotel |

Actually I've seen the same signs ("LOOK RIGHT", that is) painted on the streets near St. James' Park in Newcastle... experienced by too many drunk tourists on their way to/from the footy match, perhaps? |

Half London is plastered (please excuse the unintentional pun) with them.
Just google for "LOOK RIGHT" and hit "pictures."
Here's one:
That's part of the London experience, like "mind the gap." |

Yes. But their main function is to indicate to blind people where the crossings are. |

B.A. that sign needs to be in many places.
Gomer, it's a good thing SP didn't have to ride his bike over that yesterday or he would have broken his tail in 3 places. |

Here's another bit of trivia:
Do you know why cattle guards (that's what that is, I assume) work? |

Cause animals don't want to fall into the slots/cracks
Although they don't always work with sheep (they can jump them), buffalo ( or bison), and some of the larger cattle. |

I have one of those, and people love it when you open the back doors. For some reason, they're called suicide doors. |
