My company didn't receive this amount of scam emails (2+ a day) prior to signing up in the CCR (Central Contractors Registration). This may be a coincidence or it may be that some 419ers have somehow datamined that registry.
Has anyone else experienced an increase in these emails since registering at that site? Technically, the CCR site is allegedly secure as its a database for companies who want to supply services to city, county, state and federal agencies. |

Is the database at Central Contractors Registration publicly viewable? Scammers harvest email addresses from wherever they are posted on the internet. |

Most likely it is to some extent. But for a 419er to get into it would be bad news. There are all kinds of companies listed there and most all of them have an email.
While the site is technically for government contractors to bid on projects and get noticed by those entities that are looking for their services, it is in all probability publicly accessible when one just clicks on the 'search' option but that searcher will still need to know a few important items such as city, country, size of company, DUNS# etc. |

If they have it access, then it is probably through some sort of back door. I've had scammers share their sources of email addresses with me and quite often they have login info for a large database of details.
I guess a clever scammer manages to break in and then shares/sells it. When it gets to the point that the scammers will send to each other/me it is usually full of old info.
It's a bit scary that they get this kind of access, but there's not much to be done. |
