Looks like we are pissing some people off!

We currently have quite a few bots attacking us - I am shutting them down as they come up however if it increases I will have to shutdown the server.

It will continue to be sluggish. I have removed 84 bots so far our firewall log is 9mb in size - considering that each entry takes up one line the server has recognized a whole lot of bots all by it self!

Lets see how it goes. Hopefully we will keep the server up and running. If it does go down. Please know that we are aware of the situation.

aa419 is under attack aswell.

All it does is rile us up and make us hit them back 20x as hard, stupid fools.

It looks like the script that I wrote is holding them at bay currently. Lets see how it goes.

@simpson, You download a trojan by clicking on an emailed link which installs a small program. This program calls home to a 'botherder' who runs the show. He uses all the programs installed on the machines as one giant super-computer and orders them to keep sending page requests to a site, in this case 419eater. This rapidly swallows the sites available bandwith making it inaccessible.

Yipes! I don't have my own tinfoil hat. And I used the last of my tinfoil yesterday when I was baking cookies. What do I do?!?

So far our mitigation technique has worked extremely well. The firewall is currently stopping just under 100 bots.

So THAT is why the forums was sooo slow! I thought it was because I was playing Runescape while on the forums!
(Runescape USED to have a MASSIVE bot problem, must have been at least 1 million of them at one point-though these aren't quite the same bots-those were used to make money to sell in real life)

I find it kind of funny and quite strange that the forum is running faster for me during a bot attack than it typically does when there is not a bot attack. Seriously, that makes no sense...

It's been running smoother for me too, but that might be being due to the fact that it's 4.13am and my bandwidth guzzleing (sp?) housemates are asleep. They just don't understand that the Kbites are mines!!

Home Depot was out of tin foil hats so I bought a can of Bot Repellent. Sprayed heavily around the computer and all is holding.
