I knew you were joking and I was joking too. I said my kid was a know it all, not you. He also likes to be the center of attention and tries to make everything about him. Most kids do these days Smile

The terms emigrant and immigrant are often incorrectly used, creating confusion at best, and annoyance of English teachers at worst. In general understanding the proper usage can help dispel confusion or quell the rage of would be wordsmiths.

An emigrant leaves their land to live in another country. The person is emigrating to another country. An immigrant is a person who once resided somewhere else and now lives in your country.

Unlike Tommo, I was awake for the earthquake here in February, and I was excited rather than scared, but then it wasn't that fierce, and it had huge novelty value. Very Happy

Case in point. There is an opossum that took up residence in my backyard. Many people might not like that but me...well I leave food out for him every night. Last night he came and ate while I was still in the yard. He's cute Very Happy

But yes we are way off topic here and to show respect for the OP we should stay on topic Very Happy

This is about the earthquake...and the opossum in my backyard.

Anyhow, the Northridge earthquake scared me something awful. This one didn't at all but I fully understand why it did shake you up a bit Titania. Things are pretty well put together these days and built with earthquakes in mind, especially in So Cal Very Happy

You will probably sleep through the next one if you even notice it Very Happy

Sorry to go off topic with my opossum story but he was so cute toting a bunch of domino's pizza flyers around by his tail.

@simpson - could you go a little easier on the use of icons so that the folks on dial-up can read your posts? They take a little while to load for those folks, and I'm sure that they enjoy reading what you write.

@Irish, eep! Cyclones AND earthquakes? I've only been through one at a time (SF in 1980, 29 Palms 1999 - I think, LA 2008, and Andrew 1992) But both at the same time would be quite disconcerting.

My flatmate's great-niece is just 6 - this was her first moderate earthquake, and she's rather upset about it. After all, for animals and small kids, the ground is supposed to stay still!
