@mewing : I am giving him a similar pitch. My characters Law firm deals with this type of charity all the time.

@julian : I like the UK Tax form.. I'm supposedly based in the UK (although) I have a fax # in the US where he'll have to send the copies too.

.. and hey gang - if this goes on for a while we should all think about nailing down where he is (all of us discretely) and thinking about a rough/ dangerous bus ride into the desert.

Anyone try to ReadNotify or grab his IP to see where this leech really is?

Got my request for details this morning. Playing it nice and slow I'm gonna go for the I'd like to set up a standing order (which of course has to be bank to bank) I think $1000 a month should be more than adequate.

Bank account #2 in. I complained about the the 20% fee my bank charges for making payments to Asian countries. I demanded a European account. Very Happy

Guess I will run into problems using this one as well .. just a gut feeling ..

@Doc. Maybe a good thing if we could synchronise the error messages we're getting, trying to wire our funds. Makes things more credible if we're all have the same problems. Think of something nice Very Happy

At the moment I'm having problems understanding bank transfers...does he mean Direct Debit, where do I get the forms, where do I send them etc. etc.
(I am 85, these things are complicated at my age. Wink

@DB-I was thinking about tell him his account was under investigative hold pending clearance by the dpartment of homeland security,but I guess that isn't very good for baiters outside of ths states.

@Scarlett - yeah.. nice and slow. Let him know that the $ is just at your arms reach but you've never completed this Moneygram thing. You've got all these letters from UNICEF/ MSF/ whatever childrens NGO's with stories and photo's of kids on your refrigerator that you send money to every month and you *really* want to help this guys plight.

Make sure you ask a few questions (one per email.. ) & don't forget to forget the answers: by the fifth email - ask the first question again! Smile

Then you're definitely going to have some issues with Moneygram so ask him if its alright to use this 'ole fashioned Western Union thing (..aren't they a telegraph company??) Then after asking him similar questions like you did with Moneygram.. tell him that the closest WU office is miles away. Ask him for his help trying to locate one for you too. When you're tired of that - maybe decide on just sending a cheque to the real world address (via post) and tell him that his first of many juicy cheques was sent to the postal address on the website and what should you do now??

Being that this bait has had a lot of interest about receiving bank accounts.. you may leave the sending of suspicious accounts (just this time) to more experienced members & let them send the notifications to our covert bank expert "Alan".. but that still means you can ask our crooked friend about maybe sending your juicy payment to his bank account! (perhaps keep watching this thread to make certain we all keep our stories straight..)

@dutchbait - good suggestion about keeping our stories straight..

I'll definately not understand the banking part and send him a check, but first will wait and see how he tries to explain how this bank thing works.

I love the idea of telling I sent a check. I'll use that soon as he totally confuses me about all this banking stuff.

As a newbie I think I shall learn quite a bit from this bait, particularly dh_mac's advice to go slowly, and ask questions one-at-a-time.

@doc and @ dutchbait - theres not really a direct equivalent of Homeland Security in the UK, and Money Laundering offences are, I think, dealt with by various bodies, e.g HM Revenue & Customs, police, the security services generally, etc. One thing, though, I'm sure that a UK bank (or any of the other bodies) would never state that an account was under investigation...for reasons of customer privacy (which they take very seriously) or even libel or prejudicing a criminal case. Confused

I pissed a Barrister off today, when I indicated I had gone to the train station and handed my payment to the conductor.

I was very angry, because it turns out the train was PACIFIC UNION, Not Western Union.

I told him it may be a couple more days until I can raise more funds.

He shouted at me and told me to go to a BANK, not a Train Station...ooops I feel so dumb Embarassed

I did one better. I visited the "bank" and almost got arrested. Now he needs to fill out the 4 page WU anti-terrorist form in order to get his money delivered.

Well, i have sent my donation. Below i have added the email i sent him. I dont know why but, even though i have donated to his organisation as he requested, i have this really funny feeling that he isnt going to be happy with me Confused

"I have sent a donation of £4,000 through the ActionAid UK website and i marked on my submission form that I want my donation to be used for the "sponsor a child" appeal, and mentioned the name of the affiliate you gave me in your last email. I am not sure about how to get you the bank transfer slip, however, as after i completed the form on the website, i just got a message thanking me for my donation. Will ActionAid email me the bank transfer slip so i can forward it to you or will they give it to you directly?

I sent him an email. I wrote a check out and was mailing it in the morning. I told him I tried to call him, but received no answer.
I asked him if this was okay - regarding mailing the donation.

I wonder how fast I'll receive a response about mailing that check. Laughing

Ah, the good Dr is so helpful and patient...in view of my difficulties in understanding bank transfers, I can send money by W.U. ("even faster and a lot more safer").
Snag is that I understand you have to take the money to a W.U. agency, and, at my advanced age Wink

, I'm not "safe" going very far in my electric invalid buggy with all the traffic nowdays. Oh dear, one problem after another....sigh.
