Linux and wireless can be a pain. I would suggest taking a look Here or Here for expert help. Fwiw, I was able to get wireless to work on an old Dell Inspiron 1150 using This, out of the box. |

What is the model of laptop?
Have you tried different live-cd distros, like Puppy Linux? |

Live CD's are always going to be slower than a HDD install. Your wireless card is discussed here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=117741&highlight=ipn+2200)
I can also recommend Puppylinux which is a cinch to connect wirelessly. Both distro's have excellent support on their respective forums. |

Puppy is faster than Ubuntu, especially on older pcs. Give that a whirl. |

I just installed Puppy on my 'new' $12.00 Ebay PC. A Gateway Profile 3. A P3 with 256 RAM and a 20? gig HD. In other words old and slow.
I followed this thread http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=29653 and was watching a rental DVD on it within twenty minutes. |
