A friend of mine was scammed out of $5700 US before I could warn him. The scammer has the same car listed on 50 - 100 on-line newspaper classifieds. Once the buyer agrees he sends a bogus Yahoo Finance E-mail stating that the transaction is protected by Yahoo. He then requests a moneygram for 5700 dollars and promises the car will be shipped in 4 days anywhere in US. Obviously my friend never got his car and is out 5700 dollars. I currently have three E-mail addresses attempting to purchase this car from "Joseph Smith" & I plan on sending him to the Money Gram office as many times as I can. Has anyone else seen this scam?? |

We have seen that type of scam thousands upon thousands of times.
What is it that you need explaining?
We will be happy to help.
However, information and sympathy is about all you'll receive, as hard as that may sound. |

The Santa Barbara craigslist site is a GREAT place to pick up auto sales scammers. The scammes seem to think that everybody in Santa Barbara is a rich and miserly bastard and will jump at a 2006 Lexus with a clear title for $3702.
I had a guy going for about 3 weeks for an '06 Jetta in storage in some un-named shippers in Manhattan.
Get them here (Dime a dozen):

The auto sale/escrow scammers on Craigslist and beyond are mostly Romanian. They usually operate in gangs.
Here's a story about a bunch of these scumbags getting arrested recently:
24 scammers busted in Romania
Another article about the same story here. |
