Todays maintenance was 100% successful. All three servers are now back in sync running 100%!)

We were down for approximately 1 hour 50 mins!

It started at 6pm BST not 6pm GMT, though. The EST time was correct.

EST is GMT-5 but the UK is not on GMT atm. We are on British Summer Time, so we are GMT+1. It is laughable, really. The minute we land in BST, it rains incessantly. Rolling Eyes

EST also has daylight saving time, so our clocks are 5 hours ahead.of clocks in that time zone.

So, let me see if I get this right.

GMT never changes. When the UK goes on daylight saving time (and what noodle-brain thought up that nomenclature), their time changes to BST, but GMT remains at "standard" time. Isn't it also called "Universal [something] Time"? I seem to recall seeing that somewhere, maybe on shortwave programming.

I really do wish people would pick one time and stick to it. The sun rises and sets according to natural law, and people can't make more daylight. I know when I was a kid, our farmer neighbors hated daylight saving time - they'd have to be out in the fields until 10 o'clock at night in high summer, and they'd still have to be up in the morning. And it doesn't save energy - people are up the same number of hours, and that includes the same amount of time that needs lights on, whether it's in the morning or the evening.

BTW - thanks, Rover. And thanks for the heads-up before the maintenance. I'm sure we all appreciate the amount of time and energy you put into maintaining this site.

It was only from 1880, that the whole of the UK used GMT.
