What they should do is have a box on their forms that must be checked indicating that the customer has read and agreed that they are aware that scammers use wire transfer services to fleece their victims.

MAYBE that might cause some to think twice about what they are doing, yet I doubt that would stop many.

And that all doesn't help, you're getting the money finally! When you are paying up, you are already convinced that it is for real.
Moneygram knows that too, they get their profits any way, cause they are in the money business, but now they look good doing it and only have to pay a little bit to do so. Evil or Very Mad

In the end, we are each only responsible for our own actions. When "victims" are properly warned and they still go ahead and get taken, then it is on them alone. I for one will not hold anyone else responsible for the actions of another. Moneygram/Western Union are not these peoples mothers. If they do warn these people and they go forth, they have done all they can reasonably be expected to do.

There are victims and then there are "victims."

Warnings on cigarette packages have succesfully reduced cases of lung cancer by a whopping 0%.

Any warnings MG or WU issue will probably have the same outstanding effect.

likely tax deductible so they don't feel the pain at all, but it sure looks good that they are willing to cough it up.

Moneygram and WU are not responsible for catching mugus. Nor are they required to monitor the actions of their customers. No more than a car dealer is required to know what you intend to do with the car you buy from them. They are in the business of getting cash from one person to another quickly. Thats it. They do not know the two individuals involved, nor do they need to.

Trying to pin the responsibility of some fool that is so eager to part with his money on them is misplaced. After all, it is that most human of emotions, GREED, that the scammers are playing on.

I have personally called potential victims that we have managed to find out about and every one of them stated that they were only going to do "good" things with the money they were going to receive.....like buying a new house for their parents or a new car for their kids. So even though they intended to do "good" things, these things still turn out to be greedy just below the surface.
