And so I joined here to poast it and get someone's opinion on the target. Here is the e-mail I recieved. It is an obvious scam, but it seems to be Russian? I got these after visiting Monster Jobs .com although I am not a job seeker.

Check the headers. I suspect it's from West Africa. Specifically, Nigeria. This is a common scam, I suspect it is a check mule scam.

Your "normal" cheque scam in my eyes, a bit more make-up and better English, but still a cheque scam.

Yes it is a check scam. You get "hired" and a "customer" contacts you ready to make a payment. You give them your address and the mail you a check... etc.

Thanks for the info. It was hard for me to tell for sure. I'll get back on this tonight at home. I gotta have fun with this one. THis is a fun forum for sure.

Thanks so much. I think I'm gonna start with a fake resume on this one and e-mail it to them. You guys think this is a good way to go? If I get "hired" which is likely, I'll poast my first check here. Maybe I'll poast the fake resume for everyone's review.

a resume is overkill. Just tell them you are interested in the posistion. I promise it is easy to get hired.

Don't bother with a fake resume. They won't read it. Just write back and say you are interested. That's all you have to do. They won't care where you worked before. Have fun and welcome!

Is that the full header? There should be another originating IP on there.

As it stands, I only get your IP which is Tampa.

Very odd... I'm not sure what to say about that. Maybe someone better with headers can give an idea about this.

Appears to be a typical Russian money laundering scam. They very often target users on sites such as Monster. Often the scammers have websites which are used to attempt to lend more credibility to their scam.

I want to email them and say that I'm interested in their position, so I can see if they have a website set up that needs killing.

My header analysis concurs - Florida; specifically Clearwater (trivia note - that town was Scientology's US HQ for a while). I suspect that the message came from someone who's been spam-botted.

Probably a proxied sender which to me suggests vlads more than lads, but a bit more play will tell you quickly - try a service like readnotify which will tell you the IP of the computer they read your mail from

I sent them an email expressing interest in this "job."

It may or may not involve checks...it seems like straight up money laundering to me though.

With any luck, these Ivans will provide me a website that I can have shot down. Smile
