Yeah, for sure. I don't think it'll be long until I hear about another one. Just looking in the folders now before going to work, and there's another fake bank website email.

Also in the freaky department, I received a text message this morning from an unknown number telling me I've won the lottery and I should go to the website in the text message. All the more reason to drop this guy, I've never had a text message scam before - I've never even heard of it.

It sure smells like a scam, but I'm not 100% convinced it is a scam. If you've got the email addie we can see if it ties back to known scammers, but I'm sure there are lots of folks out there that don't have credit cards, and if we're talking about a wedding I can understand a sense of urgency.

There are lots of things that point to a scam attempt (or an attempt to get info from you to help scam somebody), but I'm not ready to put a "100% scam attempt" stamp on it quite yet.

If he is for real he should have no problem sending you money via Western Union to secure the room.

If anyone wants the header, let me know and I'll shoot you off a message. Also, when I was looking up the name and whatnot, the phone number didn't pull up anything (although it was a quick search). So who knows. I think we're just going to let it go, I'm sure we'll be able to find someone who wants to pay the price - especially because 3 of the days he would have been in house are when the Rexall Indy is going on.

Just ran the header, looks like the email came from Great Britain...so I'm gonna let him know that due to circumstances beyond our control, the hotel is now sold out. Or something like that.

Dumb question here, but what if he's not running a scam? Could your hotel have a successful discrimination case brought against it? Maybe it's just because of my years of experience in hotel management, but it sounds like if you told him you were full up and you weren't you could give him ammo for a lawsuit.

I still like the idea of having him send you the deposit via a secure means (moneygram, western union, etc.). If he's a scammer he'll run for the hills, and you won't have done anything that would leave you open for a possible (albeit unlikely) lawsuit.

There are people out there that make a living as "victims", and count on hotels settling these suits out of court. The last thing you want to do is give him any grounds for a lawsuit.

I don't think so. I told him that we're going to be doing maintenance, and we won't be able to accomodate him. Haven't heard anything back yet, so I guess we'll see...

Doing a look for Stan and his last name brought up a bunch of old posts on message boards about Linux and a name in a guest book, too. I think we'll be alright
