Doesn't sound like a scam to me, just internet panhandling. Panhandling in public in certain "hot" areas can be very lucrative. It is not illegal in the US, except for local law. It is done by anyone -- rich, poor, intellegent, or dumb. |

These ones dont deserve to be as tortured as much as the real bad ass's, they are begging and at least they admit it (even if there is lies to the story) it isnt fraud really. |

the hell it isn't. As long as their story is not true, it is indeed fraud and a worse fraud than the classic 419 - for the victim doesn't have to be greedy and dishonest to be taken by this one, just kind hearted and a little naive. This kind of lad is my favourite victim and in my view they deserve to suffer worse than any - you need to be sure they are not genuine first of course. |

Most panhandlers in the streets always have a story line that is most likely false. Money for food for their family is really going toward booze. I don't think street beggars are nearly as bad as 419 types. I think in this case the real sin is using the internet for their purpose. We already get enough spam. |

Of course it's bloody fraud!!!
It strikes at a higher emotional level than "you have won the lottery" or "we have $10,000,000.00 for you"
I'd hazard a guess that this type of fraud would have a higher success rate than ordinary 419s. |

Although I'm aware this is not a popular opinion, I find it hard to have much sympathy for the ordinary 419 victim. To fall for the classic 419 scam, you have to be not only stupid but willing to steal. A really honest person is at no risk with this type of scam. But the charity scammers are an entirely different ballgame. Unlike most scammers, their victims can be honest as the day, in fact as long as they are stupid, the more honest the better as they are even less likely to be suspicious. Besides the obvious evil of fraud and theft, they do a more insidious form of damage, incrementally chipping away at the general willingness to help those in trouble, and in this way, indirectly they steal also from the genuine distressed poor. |

Actually this same guy has been posting this same scam for about two years now. I have probably deleted twenty of them from him. I did bait him a bit as well, he doesn't stick around long, about three mails is all. |

I've baited this guy before......gave up on him though after he told me to send money through Western Union, then acted like he had no clue what I meant by "control number" and "test question/answer". |

We've seen this letter doing the rounds for quite some time. I think its a 'standard' begging letter used by many lads, in the same way as an Abacha or plane crash are standard themes. This is the non-419 'poor family which needs help'. It's all lies and those who don't fancy doing the usual 419 (or have had little success at it) try this instead. |
