You think you've got problems with a tricky lad at a payment stage. My house just went over to a water meter and my choses now to by a water pressure washer for the patio!

Ok I get the part about you having to buy a pressure washer ...but are you complaining about your water bill? or are you complaining about the water pressure in your house?

I get it. Tas is venting about having to pay for what he once enjoyed unlimited amounts of. Purchasing a high pressure washer would reduce the volume of water he uses but ultimately only save a few gallons a month at the cost of hundreds of dollars. Better things would be to remember to turn off the water while brushing teeth, wetting down first, turning the shower off, scrubbing, and then rinsing off. Making sure to only do full loads of laundry and dishes. Installing low flow everything, everywhere and installing drip watering systems. Where I live, the sewer bill is coupled to the water bill. Both go higher with the metered usage. I've also got a gray water line that takes washing machine discharge and feeds it under fruit trees. If I ever get called on it, I will just move the washing machine hose over five inches and cap the line.

Jay, Eater had always only ever been a huge piece of performance art. What, did you think there really were lads, and baits, and that all those trophies were real? People travelling hundreds of miles and getting tattoos? Shocked

I think what Tas was trying to say was that he wishes his SO had used hundreds of gallons of water cleaning the patio with her new toy before the meter was installed. Now that he has to pay for what he uses it'll cost him ££££ to get a clean patio whereas before it would just have cost the planet ... is that your message, Tas? Laughing

Essentially yes... what made it worse was she bought the wrong adapter so every 5 minutes the hose flew off thus compounding my fears...

I don't want to worry you, but be careful using a pressure washer to get that grotty black algae off the patio. There's some bacteria that lives in the algae that when it becomes aerosolised can get into your lungs and give you a nasty turn (that's a medical term). A bloke at work got it and was off with fscked lungs for 9 months Shocked

Recommendation is to wear a respirator (proper one, not a dust mask)

The water meter, and hence paying for what we use, is a fairly recent innovation in the UK, KD, and afaik, is still not compulsory everywhere. The 'notes to editors' in this press release from DEFRA (Dept for environment, food and rural affaris) gives more info. Also, there's a BBC news report from 2006 here.

Although, of course, we are all still carrying our water from the well, so would fit your categorisation. Smile

I just find this thread a bit distasteful, especially when there are thousands of poor people in Africa and elsewhere in the world that often have to travel miles a day to get water that may, or may not, be particularly clean and fit to drink..... Crying or Very sad
