Last week I washed up at a farm near Rhayader in Wales, where Red Kites, a magnificent bird with a 6 foot wingspan and nearly extinct in the 1900's, are fed every day at the same time.

We had seen one or two lazily gliding around our camp site, but nothing like this.

I took my camera, a good chance to use the long pointy lens. I suffered for my art, now it's your turn...

There was a b/w photo on display taken over one of the nearby dams in 1926, which at the time was the ONLY photo in the world of a Red Kite - now this happens daily as large amounts of raw beef are chucked out the back of a tractor:

They don't land, but swoop down to take the food, then eat it on the wing.

ha now i know that part of welsh wales you went too now.

they are bloody good photos of fab birds of prey.thanks for them.
its amazing to see such fine birds in flight.i have friends who fly birds of prey and its always a pleasure to see such fine creatures.

Cheers for the comments. I just remembered I had some more pix on the little Olympus camera (The Canon EOS350D is too heavy to carry when go walking) that I hadn't downloaded to the PC.

On a walk I came across this scene:

and a handy signboard with a photo of how the dam got busted - it was a test of the explosives needed to bust a dam for the famous Dambusters raid of WW2, on a disused one, attended by Barnes Wallace:

Also got a strange pic of water flowing over another dam, through the branches of a 300 year old Oak tree. The dam was a relative youngster, only 100 years old. The noise was tremendous!

I just noticed the blur, bottom right in all 3 photos, I just cleaned the thubprint off the lens. Rolling Eyes
