If you remember on Sunday's radio show, Dan talked to someone that claimed to be a ladyboy. He kind of messed up as he assumed I was using one of my other baitign characters. Not a problem tho. The pinay didn't bat an eyelid and tried to scam this other character anyway. It also meant I could still carry on with my bait and see if I'd get the same story. Guess what. I didn't. I kept on pushing the point on the chat to let this one dig him/herself deeper into the lie. It also gave the scammer plenty of chances to admit the truth. I have to say it was the first time in a long time I actually felt uncomfortable doing it, but I wanted as much proof of the lies as possible ready for the reveal. Sometimes you have to take one for the team puke

It's actually a different feeling dealing with a ladyboy that's pretending to be female and is in front of the webcam looking at you rather than a lad using stolen pics of a female, but who you're 99.99% certain is really a male. It was - let's just say odd and leave it at that shall we?
A lot of my conversations in IM with scammers are pretty boring truth be told. It's more about wasting their time and building up the "relationship" so they'll do what I want them to do when trophy time comes. You can't just say "Oh yeah, can you put your underwear on your head for me?" the day you meet them you know....... Laughing

If you want proof of it, I can send you reams and reams of normal conversations I've had. But honestly, it's just mind numbingly boring.

On last week's show, Dan talked to him, and he described himself as a girl trapped in a boy's body, or woman trapped in a man's body. Something along those lines anyway. I'd have to listen to the show again to get the exact phrase used.

as i understood it transgender refers to someone with gender dysphoria who is partially through the gender reassignment process - it's a murky area but there's probably more of it about than you'd think.

I was under the impression that Thailand has a "ladyboy" subculture of transgender/transvestite boys/young men for which it is unfairly famous; also a lot of gender reassignment surgeons charging very very cheap (probably not something you'd want a tesco value version of, but meh .. ) As to Ladyboys worldwide, I don't know, my ISP sent me a stiff letter about the last lot.

No one's going to believe this, but I invented the name and started to use it in a bait before I realized the double entendre... Embarassed

Anyway, I've never seen the term 'dysphoria' before this thread, so I'm probably not the expert you want.

My first series of baits, in 2004, involved a detailed back story for Ms Derbender. The part of her photograph was played by a certain Bollywood actress who shall remain nameless. Needless to say, the lads fell HARD for Jen. She accused one of being a scammer and he confessed his sins, started sending her poems, and revealed his identity as a reasonably successful Nigerian rapper (I'm pretty suspicious, but he managed to convince me it was really him, I forget just how). He even sent her some recordings of his songs. Jen's account was still receiving his plaintive emails almost a year later.

One other fellow decided to get horny. He stopped pretending that this was a scam involving money and started to proposition Jen in terms that would shock and horrify my current avatar. The whole thing started to make me feel basically greasy and disgusting. One day I opened up an email from him and said to myself, ew, so I dropped the whole thing. Man that was obnoxious. I just can't understand how those phone sex operators do it.

Wiki has quite a bit of information on ladyboys under the entry for the Thai word, 'kathoey'. There's nothing there to suggest that 'ladyboy' is a derogatory term, although apparently 'kathoey' and 'kathoey-saloey' are seen as offensive. The Wiki article suggests that 'ladyboy' is not directly equivalent to transgendered, but is considered in Thailand to be a third gender, covering a range from a transwoman (woman trapped in man's body) to an effeminate man. I had always thought it was just used to describe the former, so I'm better educated now than I was 10 minutes ago. Smile

I did a bit more digging, and opinions on whether 'ladyboy' is offensive appear mixed, so if people use the term here, I suggest they carry on doing so in a context that makes it clear it is not being used pejoratively. Very Happy

This thread seems to have veered off in a different - but definately educational - direction. The original point was that this scammer is pretending to be something he's not in order to scam money out of me. Not only is he admitting to being a ladyboy (his words, not mine) to Dan's character and then claiming to be female to mine, but the reasons for needing the money are different both times. For Dan it's all about needing money to pay to fly over to be with him. For me it's money needed to pay what he owes the ISP so "she" can reconnect the computer at home and use the webcam there in privacy.

The word kathoey is used on http://www.ladyboysofbangkok.co.uk/ but doesn't seem to be used in any kind of derogatory or offensive way. Maybe it's one of those words that's only offensive used in certain contexts.

I'd also like to point out that I have no problems at all with anyone's lifestyle choices as long as that choice isn't to scam people.
