However, I will do the opposite.
As a Submarine Commander in the Belarus Navy I look for a far different challenge in my free time and go mountaineering in the Belarusian Alps.

For my spare time, I hunt snipe and mount them in my basement. When they aren't pretending to be dead, they can usually be caught playing rummy.

Been a US coin and currency collector for years,but recently started getting into medieval and ancient.Also firearms and militaria,and a close friend once said I am not able to walk past any pile of old paper(magazines,newspapers,etc)without buying some of it.

@ Windypops: I played 5-string in high school and college. I was pretty good at it for a few years, but that was several generations ago. I still have my banjo, with custom veneer and inlay. A real work of art. Too bad I lost my skill. Sad

Right now it's college (non-traditional student) which I will be finished with shortly. When I am not in class or doing homework, I am writing. I am a writer, and I do a lot of freelance writing as well. I also like to read, listen to new age music, go boating in the summer, and spend time with my family and friends. I am also very technical (the second of my college degrees) so I am always fixing someone's computer or network.

Other than that, not much. Laughing

No it isn't. Index cards do come in handy though unless you have software that keeps track of your plots. scenes, characters and the millions of other little details that go with writing fiction. Seems my free time revolves around baiting, Eater and bicycles. I am maintaining three road bikes. I've just installed a 900 lumen flashlight on one bike. It lights up the trail pretty darn well as a 2 D cell Maglite puts out 36 lumens. In the last two weeks, I put on four tires, and had 5 flats. I also like to fish and fly. The flying is limited to the minimum to maintain my currency. I guess you can take that two ways.

I have always loved the early blues and jazz (all pre war styles mainly), played and collected it for many years (six string (slide) guitar, unfortunately never got hold of a banjo, let alone a familiar looking six string one). Outside of that, reading, drawing, cycling through the woods and around the lakes, having a major GBA (Gameboy Advance) revival at the moment Very Happy

whew, which, combined with baiting-related evening activities, by now replaced the pre-2007 ones, like shortwave + amateur radio, comic-drawing, bowling, tennis and choir singing, too (oh my :-O). The rest is filled with work at the most unconvenient times of the day and very often unforseenable in their amount of time and preparation they demand. -The rest is family and baiting related Very Happy

Karaoke DJ, offroad racing, BBQ king, gourmet cook.. Yes, I've done the geo thingie.. (I have 6 GPS receivers, in different vehicles)
I also restore collector cars.. and am a professional photographer.
I just retired from my job at the College, where I was the Program Director for Networking and Programming.
Now most of my computer repair is free to a good home..
I build and donate computers to those that have none..

I do try to keep busy..

I used to play a serviceable rendition of Foggy Mountain Breakdown but I can't imagine matching the skill those guys have. And I doubt I could remember how to play it anymore.

But maybe I will dig mine out of storage and go buy a set of strings... Wink
