Hi all

I've been aware of/ looking at this site for years (not been over recently) and have just joined up

My g/f has been "bank acc hacked" a couple of times over the last 12 months. I was wondering if anyone here can help. The last episode was this week. We have a name and an IP address.

All advice / direction gratefully noted and received

depends what can be done with an IP address I guess

G/f is getting the money back from her bank, it wasn't huge amounts, but it is a bloody liberty. Last time it was train tickets and online clothes shopping. We recon we got it down to a dodgy till clerk in a wine shop in Calais

This time it's been used for online gaming and porn web site. Again not huge amounts of money, but a cheek

All we have is an alleged name and an IP address. Can anthing be done with that

Since they have personally identifiable information, the official line from here at least would be Leave Alone, I'd imagine - One for the Old Bill if they'll help you. Turning up at his place with a length of wood will see you in the hole very quickly, even if you get the right guy.

Get her to change her Bank Account (if she hasn't already) - quickly!

Unlikely the fraud squad can/will do anything with the IP address etc, but report it anyway.

Obviously she is doing something wrong for it to happen multiple times. The best way we can help would be to suggest she learn how to select a secure password and be more careful using the account. Although I don't really know what "bank acc hacked" means in this case.

A thorough computer cleansing to remove any malicious software would probably be a good idea. I'm not sure how her info was compromised, but that is one possibility.

Any chance she followed instructions in a phishing email lately?

Very good points Luckey.

After you had complained the first time, any info swiped by the wine shop bandit would have been relatively useless.

I'm surprised she's not on a watch list that blocks any dodgy transactions. It can be a bit of a pain, but it usually runs smoothly.
