I'm new here, but I have had some experience with flying sh!t factories.

My palm tree gathered up 50 or so pigeons, crapping on car, house, and body at will..

A trusty Daisey BB gun to the rescue..

The fly in this perfect solution was a few neighbor kids.

The ankle biters got all worked up and told the wicked witch from the west.

She called the coppers, and things went downhill quickly..

The final result, I had the tree cut down to prevent the flying rats from nesting there.

Three months later, 10 pounds of bird seed fed these displaced pigeons, on the roof of the wicked witch.. Very Happy

Revenge is a dish best served cold.. Cool

Bearkat i once did something similar.
We were on holiday and the family in the next chalet were the tatoo'ed neo nazi type. Their kids kept kicking a ball against our chalet and swearing like troopers at us.
Well after a few "nippy sweeties" i nipped out with a few slices of bread and spread them on their car roof.
The seagulls loved it
No evidence left in the morning but lots of poop
So succesful i repeated this trick everynight Twisted Evil

The issue is much worse than I originally thought. While I was sitting out there slurping beers, I saw several starlings, a couple of robins, and a blue jay all attack my precious jojo's food and water bowl. As I was too drunk to shoot straight, I just sat and watched them. However, I came up with a better plan. I have an old single shot 12 ga. shotgun that hasn't been fired for a lot of years. I am going back to wally world and buy a box of #7 bird shot shotshells. That way I can't miss......................

How about only leaving a small amount of food out at a time.
Enough for the dog to eat without any leftovers.

On the other hand you could take up ornithology

Why is the dog's food even out in the yard anyway? That just seems to be creating a problem. Can you not feed him indoors?

What Nanny said regarding feeding JoJo just enough makes a lot of sense. If there is no surplus, there is no problem.

The birds are only there because there is spare food. Removing the problem removes the negative symptom.

Hey wait a second. I've been following this thread and nowhere did anyone say anything about a chicken.

I've been thinking about starting a thread on what kind of shotgun to buy for skeet shooting but have resisted. Your post reminds me of a story that sounds like complete BS. Many years ago a neighbor came up the driveway asking if I had any shake shingles left over from a reroofing job. He heard a rat in his attic space and killed the thing with a 12 gauge. Ended up with a fist sized hole in his roof. Another time I drove up to see what looked like a bird bar flying above his roof. Those are the bars you might see above bill boards that are motorized to prevent birds from landing on top and crapping on the sign. He was using a motorized snake and was going after a clot in his plumbing. The snake went up a pipe up to the roof and was circling his roof. A shotgun will not solve any of your problems.

Since this a dog thread. My parents dog had to be put down las night.
Border Collie 13 years. She was diagnosed with a tumor in the leg and an operation scheduled for Tuesday last. Some test results showed it was much worse and it was decided she was to be put down this Tuesday. Last night I had a very tearful mother on the phone. Gillie (dog) was having trouble breathing She was taken to the vet and well no more Gillie. She was my Fathers greatest companion and unfortunately I can see him throwing in the towel as well.

Back to the birds, if they are starlings and other non feral birds are also eating the feed. It would be best to move the food indoors as said. Or selectivly kill with an air rifle. It's illegal here. I have in the past made some pretty good blow guns and darts. (plastic conduit and cardboard) They won't kill or hurt the birds however will startle them and move them along. Eventually they get to know its not a safe place and stay away.

I've seen sparrows 3-4 kilometers from my house run when I get out of the car.
They all know Smile

All B.S. aside, I think I will try the feeder and bird bath route. It's not so much the food that bothers me but the nastiness of the water they cause. Jojo stays outside all the time and needs a supply of fresh, clean water.

Mr Bawls, I've been laughing over this thread for a couple days. You've had some good suggestions. Have you thought about getting an outdoor water fountain for your pooch? Might solve the problem with the food too if you take away the standing water. It's kind of spendy but maybe if you google for it there are some similar products that are cheaper.

I can understand how frustrating it can be. I had to deal with neighborhood cats $hitting in my garden. I tried everything to try to keep them out but finally found a cheap electric fence. Works like a charm Twisted Evil

. I was disappointed though that I wasn't allowed to shoot 'em.
