I told her I hadn't answered her emails in a week because my Grandmother had died and I left town to help with the funeral. Her response:

Yeah, that's the way romance goes in Yoshkar Ola. One of my very few vlads did a similar thing... I didn't reply for 3 days, and I told her it was because the floods had washed me out of house and home. She sympathised for half a sentence before asking if I could still get to the WU agent to send her money.

Of course, her mother has been dying for over 3 weeks now. I am pretty sure even if they relived the pressure on the brain it wouldn't do much good. Though if she is like her 'daughter' then you may not be able to notice.

Ask her for some money to be sent from money gram. There is an office 2 minutes walking from your offices. You have to make quick arrangements at simplicity funerals, or the nice scenic plot under the shade of a coolabah tree will be gone.
