we took a load to san fransisco last week, and went through Donner Pass on I80.
i thought it was strange, but there is no restaraunt there. for some reason, i was expecting to find one. |

I saw the Grateful Dead play ther in 1980something, and then spent a week hiking off to a really beautiful lake. It's lovely up there... if you have enough food. |

It's probably Donner Lake. You can see it from I80. It is a beautiful area, unless you are driving a truck hauling a light load, in a winter storm... But the DOT does a good job of keeping it clear.
The beauty ends right as you get at the bottom and you realize you are in... gag.. california. |

I made a trip through Donner pass in the late 70's with 80,000 lbs, and it was snowing. I hope never to repeat that again. |

At our library we have to do shelf checks for books that patrons claim they have returned. One night when I was working with a local historian I received a call from one of our branches to do a shelf check on a book about the Donner Party. As I got up to do the task I looked at the historian and said "I'll be right back I have to go find the Donner Party."
He started laughing and said "Are they lost again?"
I replied "Apparently so."
He said "Look for the bbq sauce that will lead you to them."
I tell ya working for the public is interesting.  |
