When the Vics reply to this scam it is no more than stealing and yes not dishonest
When you get your pocket picked it is not your fault
Wanting Millions paid in to your bank account is dishonest

The vast majority of the lads emails are for enrichment of the vics, why are they encouraged by the lads to keep this once off offer secret from there partners, that in itself is dishonesty .

Most of the dying widow scams start out with a script that says "help me give a large percentage to charity and keep 10% for your troubles/expenses".
What person wouldn't want to be able to distribute millions to charity AND seek some financial bonus for themself?

Doodlebug, I don't mean to offend you, but how much experience do you have with victims? Some of the members here are very active at ScamWarners or other groups that deal with victims. I have personally corresponded with hundreds of victims and find your blanket judgements concerning.

Ima is correct. Some vics are just as guilty as the scammers. They in turn steal and they are involved in illegal activities. But a lot of them have good, honest intentions when they get involved.

Charity scams, adoption scams, fake check scams are all examples of scams that don't involve greed at all. In fact, 2 of those 3 involve very good intentions.

Taking my argument further... you are free to blanket judge lads. They are scammers. Their intents are all selfish and wrong. It's as simple as that.

It always amazes me how well the lad's keep up with things and use them in their baits. Many people are expecting that refund, so it looks rather believable.

I'm waiting to see the new format after the earthquake in China and the cyclone in Myanmar.

^^Good point. Nature abhors a vacuum. And so do lads. Any opening opportunity gets exploited. The most successful one I can think of is the tens of thousands of people each year (month?) who lose money because of misconceptions about what it means when a check "clears".

I think the recovery scams are particularly sly and shifty. A lad contacts a victim who will no longer pay him because they've finally realized it's a scam, and pretends to be someone helping them recoup their losses. The victim, who clings to this hope, ends up being victimized again. Crying or Very sad

This one is rather believable too, as the lad actually sends work to the victim, prior to sending out the fake check. I have spoken to a victim who did the work and was waiting for payment.

My wife has been telling me for a couple of months that we are supposed to get one of those jump start the economy payments. I asked her if we were supposed to receive a check or something but she had no idea. So you are right as I can see a lot of people falling for what you posted.

On a more personal note, we actually did get a check last week Smile

Anyway...

...yeah, the lads can be very clever. I've received a few different formats based on the U.S. government's refund check deal. People in my family are rather intelligent, but they (we, actually) were confused about how the process works. Do they need to file paperwork? Do they need to call a telephone number? Do they need to do anything to get their refund checks?

Err...in reality...you just file your 2007 tax return as usual and the rebate/economic stimulus payment just shows up. You don't do anything unusual.

But the lads aren't stupid. The government is a complicated organization...so a good number of people don't quite understand how something new, like these checks, is supposed to work.

Things are getting very expensive in Britain right now, diesel has gone up 25% in 6 months with petrol along similar lines. Food us up 20% over last year, electricity and gas up by similar amounts.

With pressure on people's finances getting this bad I feel there are going to be lots of people clutching at straws for a few extra pounds... We may have a lot more victims coming in, honest or otherwise.

victims are from every type of person, at the end of the day so are lads, but i agree they are clever barclay bankers (slang).

From what ive learnt at eater theres a kind of boss - and workers and in amongst those workers is someone who comes up with all these crazy scams, and some are to be frank horrendous. This is then spoon fed to willing lads who will spew it out to victims around the globe.

In short, this means the average intelligence of a lad creating the scams is at least equal to that of a baiter - but we have the moral upper hand, we use our combined knowledge for GOOD.

I think that is an honest and fair assesment of lads intelligence, there just like you and me, and they too can be suckered in, even an experienced baiter could be a victim - Although it would prove incredibly difficult.

I was once told it was easier to trick a clever person than a stupid person, I think that holds true, its easier to get a tattoo on a clever lad than a stupid one -

That's funny but you did make me go back and ask my wife again. She told me we already had that conversation but I wasn't listening. Anywho, no check as the funds went directly into our account. She said that was because that's how we chose to have our income tax return sent. I guess she knows more then I gave her credit for.
