Have lurked and laughed here for some time, but oddly enough in years of being online, have never received a scam letter. Then out of the blue, 4 in 2 weeks show up at my work email address. So I made a few notes, set up a hushmail account, and am trying a straight time wasting bait to get my feet wet. Though down the road, I may try some more involved things.

Anyway, I am now officialy J0hn C@rt3r the director of M1ll3nni@l Acc0unt1ng R3s3@rch S3rv1c3s. The acronym of course being MARS. SO they will now be dealing with J0hn C@rt3r of MARS. Warlord of all Barsoom. If you are familiar with Edgar Rice Burroughs, the name should be familiar. Though J0hn C@rt3r should common enough to not raise suspicion.

I am sure I will be seeking guidance at some point. I replied to one stating they must have the wrong company. They came back with a straight script reply asking for information and a $240 delivery fee to have my check sent via FedEx. I replied that it is possible this job slipped my mind, and my company could do a lot with that money, but can we be sure it is ours, and that the $240 is trivial in comparison to the size of the transaction. Will see where it goes from here.

I wouldn't worry too much about a normal sounding name either. I once baited a scammer with the names Tickle McCrotch and Ramitin Firmly...trophies too.

Just don't tell 'em who you really are and dive in mate.

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Have fun with it.

Everyone will tell you - read the stickies and get a Mentor. I'd also recommend that you read several of the published baits. You'll learn a lot and get loads of great ideas.

I have read some o f the stickies, the stuff in the safe baiting tips, letters archives, etc... Still, tons of info, so will take a while to digest. I'll check the mentor link and try to get someone.

Ahh yes Deja Thoris, my princess of Helium. I will likely try to work her in at some point. Hmmmmm could have my CFO be Tars Tarkas.

Haven't received an answer to my questions from Friday late afternoon. If he doesn't come through I have 3 more sitting in my inbox now. I know I will have a lot of questions, but I have tried to educate myself as much as possible before launching out in to this.

Thanks again for the words of encouragement. I know this is going to be fun, you guys are one of my biggest sources of entertainment.
